The Official 2017 MLB Thread

Jeff, the Royals are having some trouble. They made a run at the end of last year...but it was a little too late in the season. Perhaps they'll have a strong June/July and get back into the race. Unfortunately, the AL is crazy right now.

The Orioles are hanging tough, but their schedule (which I believe is the 3rd hardest in MLB) is going to take its toll. Hopefully they can do enough to stay afloat!
If the Royals are going to make a run this opening series with Cleveland would be a good start. The AL is going to be tough this year. That Houston team is scary looking.

That was a rough loss for the Cubs against the Yankees today...

The Yankees are primed to be awesome for the next 4-5 years. They're doing this much damage without Gary Sanchez! They've made some great moves in the last few years and it's going to pay off...

Scary.

Jeff, what's the situation out there? Pitching was rolling along... has the hitting completely collapsed?

Yes, I believe we're in last place of every conceivable offensive stat. I'm afraid this group might just be on their last hurrah together. The fire sale has most likely begun and the rumor is our GM is spreading the word that all players are available if the offer is good. I'm not sure what will happen but we've got a bunch that are free agents after this season. Hosmer, Moose, Cain, and Escobar that I can think of off hand.

Well, they play the O's in the next week or so, which probably means they'll wake from their slumber just in time to torture Baltimore.

I can't imagine they'll stay down much longer...

I hope you're right! :whistling:

Usually the way these things go!

Curious to see how the Royals fare here in these next two series. The O's and the Yankees should be a good indication of how this season will go. The Royals seem to play down to the lesser teams at times so I'm looking forward to playing the big boys.

O's record is solid... but our closer (and quite possibly best player) Zach Britton is on the DL for 45- 60 days! Argh.... our stand-in closer has blown quite a few saves, including against the Nats on Thursday night. :-/ Shouldn't lose to the Nats! ;-))

Hope the games are competitive this weekend... obviously, you know who I want to win. But I hope the Royals CRUSH the Yankees! :T:T:T

Honestly I think we'll be lucky to split against those teams. I hope they're competitive as well.

Don't be running on Gordon…

At least last nights game was competitive Todd. Let's hope Soler doesn't keep diving for balls and letting them roll to the wall. We really need to win tonight's game because Chris Young takes the mound for us tomorrow. I can't believe Ned's giving him another start because he's been historically bad. Almost half of the last sixty hits he's given up have left the park.

On the bright side (for you) I fully expect the O's to tee off on Young tomorrow. Maybe the Royals are turning the corner it's too bad they dug such a hole for themselves.

The O's are killing me!!! First they let their ex-catcher (Wieters) beat them in the 9th in DC... now two in a row to the Royals. Games are certainly close. Hope we can steal one today...

Your boys better take the Yanks behind the shed too! ;-)

I don't think you'll have to steal it. I think your O's are going to put several in the fountains today.

I really didn't think we'd win today with Young on the mound. Hopefully we can help you out by beating the Yankees Todd. First sweep of the O's in KC since 2000? That's a long time and shows just how good Baltimore has been. Maybe we can still make a run this year? Hope so because I'd hate to see this group traded off.

Baltimore completely barfed on itself... honestly, a few days ago I joked about this happening, but I could see it coming. The bullpen, without Zach Britton, has been seriously taxed. And there's no closer. That has created chaos and weird workloads for the entire bullpen. The starting pitching is good but inconsistent. The bullpen has been its savior for years. Without the bullpen in order, Baltimore's pitching can be suspect.

I hope they can figure this out, because Britton is gone through June.

O's had a tying runner on third in two of the three games... just couldn't get the hit.

Plus, KC is a very competent team. You can't hold good players down forever...eventually the coming out party would happen. Right?

Congrats on the sweep, Jeff! And while this will cause me many sleepless nights, glad your boys are righting the ship. :T:T

Go Royals against Yankees (if you haven't watched NYY in a while, take a look at this Judge kid. He's a monster).

We've got tix for next Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Sure hope the team isn't limping home after this weekend/coming week.

If the Royals have truly turned it around we'll find out against NY. The post game comments were all about NY so they know what's in front of them. Classy thing Adam Jones did for the Negro Leagues Museum here. He's getting a lot of love and rightfully so.

The Yankees really turned things around quickly. That's kind of where the Royals are with trading pieces away. It's a tightrope. Let's see how they fare against Houston. I picked them last year and they underperformed. I'm picking them again this year.

NY has the ability to trade pieces and then re-sign them once they hit the FA market. Can't blame them for doing what the system allows.

It's absolutely crazy that a mid-market team like Baltimore has to battle mega-market teams like Boston and NY. Sure would be nice to see a salary cap slide into place.

Jones is a class act all the way. A lot of folks seem to think he's cocky for some reason. That guy single handedly saved baseball here in Baltimore with his winning attitude and leadership. Not to mention he's big into charity around the city.

Good guy. One of my all-time favorites.

Ouch…not a good start.

Loving the A's giving the Red Sox a little spanking! Keep it up!

The O's, hopefully, have weathered their little 7 game nightmare stretch. Although once Toronto leaves town they have to play the first place Twins... then the first place Astros... and then the Yankees. And June doesn't get any easier. Hopefully Zach Britton is healing faster than fast. We need him here in Baltimore like no other!
