Global 4K UHD Premieres for Outland, The Mask, and Red Planet
On November 4, the Sci-fi thriller Outland makes its universal 4K UHD debut. Writer-director Peter Hyams (2010: The Year We Make Contact) combines elements of a classic Western and Film Noir in a gripping drama that takes place in outer space. Outland features a brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative by Arrow Films. The Limited Edition release is packed with hours of special features, collectible packaging, and newly commissioned extras.

Federal marshal William O'Niel (Sean Connery, The Untouchables) receives an assignment at a titanium mining operation on Io, a moon of Jupiter. This is a hostile environment where miners in spacesuits work on the harsh rocky surface in 14-hour shifts. There’s not much to do inside the climate controlled outpost besides play racquetball, hang out at a gentleman’s club, and spend their pay in a brothel, all of which are overseen by Mark Sheppard (Peter Boyle, Young Frankenstein). The miners are under a lot of pressure to hit quotas. A few have snapped, exposed themselves to the moon’s atmosphere, and suffered horrible deaths. The company blames the incidents on mental breakdowns. O’Niel suspects there is more to the story and enlists the unwilling help of Dr. Lazarus (Frances Sternhagen, Misery). They discover a dangerous stimulant in the blood of a deceased worker, which keeps the miners working long hours for months on end and ultimately leads to psychotic episodes. Can O’Niel break up the drug ring responsible for the deaths?

Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible); original DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio and lossless stereo audio options; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; archival audio commentary with writer-director Peter Hyams; brand new audio commentary; brand new interviews with writer-director Peter Hyams and others; a brand new video appreciation; a brand new visual essay; the theatrical trailer; an image gallery; a double-sided fold-out poster; and an illustrated collector’s booklet.

On November 11, the outrageous romantic superhero comedy The Mask makes its global 4K UHD debut. The cartoonish visual frenzy features a 4K restoration of the film from the original camera negative by Arrow Films approved by director Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King). The limited edition set is packed with hours of special features, collectible packaging, and newly commissioned extras. The release will also be available on Blu-ray.

Meek bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey, Batman Forever) gets bullied by disreputable car mechanics, conniving co-workers, and an annoying landlady. He’s the perfect pushover. He finds solace in watching cartoons on TV. The only one who won’t take advantage of him is his dog Milo (Max). Stanley develops a crush on a new customer, Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz, Charlie’s Angels), a singer at the swinging Coco Bongo club. This potential romance has two problems: Stanley is too shy to ask her out, and she’s dating the vicious mobster Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene, Pulp Fiction), who runs the nightclub. When he attempts to enter the nightclub, the bouncers refuse Stanley entry. On his way home, he jumps in the water to rescue a man floating nearby. The body turns out to be garbage and an ancient mask. When he puts on the mask, Ipkiss is transformed into a green-headed character straight out of a Tex Avery cartoon. He comically terrorizes anyone who crosses him. The Coco Bongo Club erupts when the masked Stanley hijacks the floor show with s-s-smoking dance moves to woo Tina. But Dorian Tyrell has other plans—and he’s ready to make the manic Stanley say, “That’s all, folks!”

Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible); original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio, lossless stereo audio and a brand new Dolby Atmos mix; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; archival audio commentary with Chuck Russell; archival audio commentary with Chuck Russell, New Line co-chairman Bob Shaye, screenwriter Mike Werb and others; brand new interviews with director Chuck Russell, actor Amy Yasbeck and others; a brand new video essay on canine sidekick Milo; archival featurettes; deleted scenes with optional commentary by director Chuck Russell; the theatrical trailer; an image gallery; an illustrated collector’s booklet; a double-sided fold-out poster; and six postcard-sized reproduction artcards.

On November 18, buckle up as Red Planet makes its 4K UHD debut. The Martian landscape has never looked more vivid, thanks to a brand-new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative. The limited edition set is packed with hours of special features, collectible packaging, and newly commissioned extras.

The Earth is dying and mankind plans to relocate to Mars after a massive terraforming project. The remote sensors record the oxygen levels dropping before they stop responding. The first manned crew is launched to Mars to see if the decades-long program can be salvaged. The Mars-1 crew consists of Commander Kate Bowman (Carrie-Anne Moss, The Matrix), co-pilot Ted Santen (Benjamin Bratt, Miss Congeniality), science officer Bud Chantilas (Terence Stamp, Superman II), engineer Robby Gallagher (Val Kilmer, Top Gun), bioengineer Quinn Burchenal (Tom Sizemore, Natural Born Killers) and terraformer Chip Pettengill (Simon Baker, The Devil Wears Prada). The six-month journey goes off-course as the crew approaches the Angry Red Planet. A gamma-ray burst slams into their spacecraft, disrupting all systems. Their lander makes a rough, off-target descent onto the Martian surface. The atmosphere-producing algae is gone. The base is in ruins, leaving their spacesuits as the only source of oxygen. To make matters worse, the research robot AMEE has reverted to military mode, and now considers the crew hostile targets. Things aren’t looking good for life on Mars.

Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible); original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; brand new interviews with crew members; a brand new visual retrospective; deleted scenes; theatrical trailer; and an illustrated collector’s booklet.
