The HEOS App Gets Overhauled with a Visual and Functional Update

(December 14, 2023) Denon's HEOS technology is a proprietary wireless ecosystem that is built into many Denon and Marantz products, including AVRs, network amps, speakers, and soundbars. It allows audio fans to wirelessly stream music from most music services directly to a device, with functionality controlled through an app (Apple and Android). You can also group together multiple HEOS-capable devices and wirelessly share content throughout multiple rooms. In fact, you can connect up to 64 zones, all the while maintaining audio fidelity and a lag-free listening environment.

Today, Denon's parent company, Masimo Consumer, announced a significant visual and functional update to the HEOS app that places music front and center. Masimo says that innovation packed into the release was fueled by customer feedback, ultimately making it easier to access your favorite tunes, radio stations, and podcasts the moment the app is opened.

Here are some of the new features you can expect to see:

Revamped User Interface
Experience a HEOS app transformation with a fresh, user-friendly design that not only makes navigation more intuitive but also provides a sleek and modern interface. Say goodbye to the home screen of old, and hello to a streamlined experience. Plus, with the new "Now Playing" display at the bottom of the screen, you can keep track of your currently playing music from anywhere within the app, ensuring your music is just a glance away.

Enhanced Home Screen
The revamped home screen serves as a personalized music hub, offering instant access to your recently played tracks, favorite music, and preferred music service content. Your entertainment experience begins the moment you open the app. Plus, take control of your musical journey by curating your own HEOS playlists. Mix and match media from various streaming platforms to craft the perfect playlist that matches your mood. Your music, your way, right at your fingertips.

Universal Music Search
Say goodbye to the hassle of searching for music across multiple platforms. With a new universal music search, you can easily find the music you want by searching across all of your streaming platforms and personal libraries simultaneously.

A World of Improvements
Massimo says its developers have been hard at work further enhancing the user experience across multiple facets, including device accessibility, reliable wireless surround technology, enhanced login security, uninterrupted playback, streamlined in-app controls, flawless audio synchronization, and seamless in-app messaging, among various other aspects.

When I first opened the app. After the update I was annoyed by the update. I frequently use the app. as I run HEOS as my home audio. I’m sure with time I’ll adjust, just seems as I get older familiarity is more important than constant change.

I know that feeling! It's never easy to pivot to something new, when the old seems to be working just fine

Todd, bit of a an odd one but here goes: we have been using the Heos system for some years and recently installed the new app. since then one of the room speakers ( and only one) randomly decides to play a track from Spotify, when we are not using the app. Mystifying on several levels: we dont subscribe to Spotify , only Tidal: the track it exists on playing is a 'brown noise' track which we have never downloaded, never mind that it just turns itself on at random. relacing the track in the queue with something else doesnt work as the track mysteriously reappears sometimes days later. have you heard of anything like this and more to the point any idea what we can do about it! Non techy response appreciated. Thanks KatyW

Hi @katyw!

Weird. I've not heard about that kind of problem, but am curious.

What kind HEOS gear/speakers do you have in your home, specifically?
