The Hate You Give Movie

So some of you may not be aware but my wife is of black decent and grew up in the "ghettos" of Toronto I am usually very cautious about discussing the discrimination blacks and other ethnic groups have on forums as it can get very political to deal with however after watching the movie "The Hate You Give" with my wife and three teens she was near tears during many parts of this movie as it brought up memories of her life as a child in the ghetto.

She stated that it was one of the few movies that actually dealt with the real issues that her family dealt with and was VERY well done. I think that if you want to educate yourself and see how life is for them this may be one that you want to watch. It is a very good move and I enjoyed it a lot. they also kept it clean so it can be watched by young people.

Thank you Tony for sharing. I will lookout for this movie. My wife and I like movies like this that give true meaning of the struggles and victories that may have gone through. I am sure your wife is a very caring, compassionate and strong person.

Your very welcome Asere, Ive been watching a lot of "based on true stories" movies lately and will start to comment on them over the next week or so.I think there is a lot to say about the hardships that our black culture has had to deal with over the last century or so.

Wow, that's intense Tony. I know both of my kids have read the book. They said it was well written - not sure if either have watched the movie. I'm definitely curious to check it out. What you're describing... sounds like it really struck a chord with your wife. That's a powerful statement.

Todd, I struggle to watch movies that have such a divisive topic because they tend to be so one sided but thankfully you get to see both sides and you really do get the feeling that the writers of the book and movie tried to remain neutral but still keep the facts.
The Help was also a movie that generated alot of discussion and I enjoyed it but did find that some of it was biased in many ways.
