this thing is so ugly, I love it! I really dig how Tesla pushes the envelope.

I’ve been wanting to trade my Suburban, just because it’s gas mileage is horrendous and I’d like to support the electric movement. I need a hauler, tho. There are some options coming in 2020... Rivian looks really interesting. But, I’m a little nervous to support an unproven start up. And no we have this insane futuristic looking Tesla.

I was hoping it would have more traditional lines... it’s crazy. Bold crazy!

from wired,
The base version of the Cybertruck, with a single motor, will start at $39,900, good for 250 miles of range, a tow rating of 7,500 pounds, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.5 seconds. A dual motor $49,000 version can tow 10,000 pounds and reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with 300 miles of range. And the top of the line variant, starting at $69,900, will go more than 500 miles between charges, hit 60 mph in under 60 seconds, tow up to 14,000 pounds, and start production in late 2022.

My 2 cents...

It looks ridiculous. Like a fantasy cartoon vehicle. Or a doorstop, depending on how you look at it. It doesn't resemble anything I believe the typical truck owner is looking for. BUT...

In recent years most new passenger vehicles have become virtually indistinguishable from each other, which makes for an extremely boring automotive landscape. Their strategy is to create the most unique (read: ugly) headlights and taillights on the market in order to stand out. While I don't love the looks of the Cybertruck, it will be exiting to see something completely unique on the road. Hopefully it inspires some new design ideas throughout the industry.

I'm a car guy and revolutionary new concepts are always exciting. [yes, I know the EV is nothing new] I'm not jumping on the EV train just yet but it's coming sooner than I think a lot of us expected, and thanks mostly to Mr Musk in my opinion. He has successfully upset an industry that has seemingly been fighting progress for a long time (there are a variety of opinions about why, but not looking to debate that). I just think it's cool to see something different that has a chance at success. Who knows, maybe 10 years from now we'll all be wondering how anyone functioned with old-fashioned pickup trucks?

but seriously... it looks like a $4 Lego set.

The more I look at this thing, the more I like it. What I don't like is the 2-3 year window that the market will have to wade through to have access to it.

The video of this thing dragging the Ford F-150 backwards in a tug-of-war is hilarious. There's really no doubt that Tesla has unlocked a forward-thinking revolution. I'm really curious to see what kind of trucks Rivia delivers during 2020. They're much more traditional looking... but the don't carry near the cache of Tesla's crazy design.

Hi-tech futuristic look... I like it too. I just watched a video on solid state batteries which should be out in 2025, and they said Tesla is rumored to be looking at the technology, and 1000 miles is not a far reach.

In the demonstration video, they tried to show that the window was unbreakable but of course, it broke.

Now, I am not sure on this but shouldn't window glass especially the side windows break? I can understand the front windshield not breaking but the side windows?

How else would emergency crew get to someone if they were stuck in the vehicle if the door can't open due to some malfunction?

I agree that it’s not the best looking truck I’ve seen but the specs are very impressive and I’ve been anxiously awaiting this truck. Given it’s still 2-3 years from release I’ll bet there will be some changes/ refinements to the appearance. Not sure everything we are seeing is DOT approved including those headlights. Unlike the other Tesla models, the price point on this is inline with the other top American trucks so for now I’m in. I ordered mine yesterday. Deposit is fully refundable so why not.:woohoo:

Ugly but still beautiful

I own a Tesla Model 3

What is very impressive about the truck is the 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

My Model 3 goes from 0-60 in 5 sec and while doing so makes you suck back into the seat and makes your stomach flip.

The truck's 0-60 in 2.9 has to make ones heart turn inside out.

When your model 3 goes that fast, does the electric power go equally fast (drain)?

It must but I really don't know.

I'm 100% solar and don't have to pay for electricity. So, I don't pay attention how much juice I'm using.

Nice.

I'm going to wait and see what happens with Rivian next year. That's probably around the time frame I'll be looking to replace my current ride. I'm sure they'll be taking deposits for a while longer. Still tho... hats off to Tesla. Crazy!

At first I found it repulsive but somehow it’s beginning to grow on me. The window snafu was quite embarrassing and a really bad look. Those performance numbers for the tri motor version are ridiculous for a truck and any car for that matter.

Speaking of pre-order, Tesla said 150K already did..

from yahoo,

"Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Saturday that there have been about 150,000 orders thus far for the electric carmaker's Cybertruck, which was unveiled late on Thursday.

"146k Cybertruck orders so far, with 42% choosing dual, 41% tri & 17% single motor", Musk said in a tweet, adding separately that the orders were achieved without any advertising or paid endorsements."

Musk explained that when the sledghammer test on the door frame was done, it weakened the window so that is why it shattered..

from theverge,

"Right before the metal ball test, von Holzhausen smacked the door with a sledgehammer on stage to prove its durability (and unlike the glass, it was fine), and Musk says this impact “cracked base of glass,” which is why the windows subsequently smashed when hit by the ball. "

In addition, he provided a video via twitter below of the metal ball going to the glass during their testing and it didn't shatter the glass..

Lego is into this fight now..

from mashable,
"Tesla's Cybertruck took another brutal hit when Lego stepped into the ring. The toy company posted a rudimentary car made of stacked bricks and plastic wheels to the company's Australian Facebook page on Monday. The image is similar to promotional images of the Cybertruck, Tesla's thoroughly mocked first electric pickup truck. "
