(January 9, 2018) Sony has arrived at CES 2018 with an updated version of its popular A1E OLED display. The new A8F series (available in 55” and 65” versions) offers small little changes to last year’s model, still relying on the company’s X1 Extreme processing chip to produce insanely accurate 4K HDR images. New for this year is a design that loses the A1E’s kickstand in favor of a true upright orientation, along with support for a 3.1 channel soundbar (dubbed the HT-29F). Yes, the A8F series is still designed to emit sound direct via its screen (which Sony now refers to as “Acoustic Surface”).

Pricing for A8F models has not been announced.

Sony has also refreshed its LCD television options as well, introducing the new X900F series. The company is powering X900F sets with the same X1 Extreme processor found in its OLED TVs, boosting anti-blur performance with its own proprietary “X-Motion Clarity” technology. All X900F TVs use local dimming LED screens.

The X900F will be available in sizes ranging from 49” to 85”, pricing has not been announced.

In other Sony news, the company is showcasing a prototype version of its X1 Ultimate chip. Sony claims the chip offers twice the processing power of the X1 Extreme being used in its 2018 TVs. According to Sony, the X1 Ultimate can run 8K HDR with an image brightness of 10,000 Nits, which is the maximum brightness allowed by the current HDR specification.

Saw the new X1 Ultimate processor in action via a prototype 8K Display. The brightness factor was literally unbelievable... color volume ASTOUNDING. The prototype was positioned next to 75Z9D (pictured right)

and the difference in color and detail was literally night and day. If this is what 8K HDR content will truly present,we’re all in for a treat!

Yes, very exciting. Nice pics. Thanks for sharing. :)
