(Sony) Sony is launching two limited edition console packages
(August 10, 2018) Rewind the calendar some 24 years and we arrive at 1994, a landmark moment for Sony and the gaming industry as a whole. During December of that year, Sony launched its original PlayStation for $299, which was frequently found at US retailers as part of a $400 bundle that included a single game and a memory card. PlayStation went on to smash historical console sales numbers, blowing past 100 million units sold, riding the success of titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and the ultra-popular Gran Turismo.

Sony has since released three iterations of the PlayStation, recently announcing it has sold 500 million units across all four generations of the platform. To celebrate, the company is releasing a special “Limited Edition Bundle” that includes a PS4 Pro Console with a 2TB hard drive, a Dualshock 4 wireless controler, a Playstation Camera, and a Vertical Stand. The console (like the controller) is crafted with a special translucent blue material, and proudly wears a front-mounted copper plate engraved with its limited edition serial number. Some serial numbers, according to Sony, have special significance (such as 01115, which matches the North American launch date of the PlayStation 4 on November 15,, 2013).

Sony says only 50,000 units will be sold worldwide, in addition to separately packaged Limited Edition DualShock 4 controllers ($74.99 each) and a Gold Wireless Headset 500 Million Edition ($119.99).

The Limited Edition Bundle is priced at $499 and officially goes on sale August 24. Pre-orders, however, open online August 14. And for those gaming enthusiasts looking for a limited release with a superhero touch, the company’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle,” featuring custom a Red and White Spider-Man console and controller, ships on September 7 for $399.99.

I don’t game much anymore but occasionally fire up my PS4 for some Madden action. Once upon a time it was my do all media player but those duties have been relegated elsewhere. I’m sure I’ll buy the next gen console whenever it’s released. I just didn’t see the value in upgrading to the PS4 Pro.

I'd love to have one of these in my home... but I've banned gaming machines for myself. I have a sweet tooth for Call of Duty. The only way to control the addiction is to remove the source from my home. My last console was a PS2 and SOCOM Navy Seals was a "problem" for me ;-)

Maybe someday, once my kids are off at college (next 2-4 years), I'll bring one back!

Yep, I was once a COD addicted gamer myself. I’ve since been playing Fortnite every now and then sprinkled in with COD. I just don’t play the FPS like I once did. Madden just never gets old for me.

You’ll get a kick out of this:

I’m not exaggerating when I say this but I’ve literally played and owned every single version in that video. It’s crazy how far we’ve come in video game technology.

Hard to believe this was the beginning!

Ha! I had that as a kid... also had a baseball one... and a handheld math game called DataMan.

I used to buy the NCAA Football PlayStation games...although Inthink they were always a year behind Madden graphics/gameplay-wise.

I need to be careful, here. I’m starting to think about a PS4!

Is there really much difference between video games and pinball machines? Just sayin.....:whistling:

There’s a big difference... but I see your point. ;-)

I sense passion in your response. As far as the PS4 and future gaming consoles I’ll continue purchasing in the name of my grandkids! That’s what I’ll tell the wife anyway.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for games.

PS4 would be a lot easier on the wallet, that's for sure. But I'm completely addicted to the mechanical/physical nature of pinball. Wouldn't take much for me to get sucked right back into gaming on a console, too, tho. I'm sure the online play of COD would waste away hours of my life!

I have the PS4 and greatly enjoy it. Glad to see they are still selling well after all these years. :)
