(January 28, 2026) Sonos is expanding its custom-install footprint with the launch of Amp Multi, a multi-channel streaming amplifier designed for larger, more complex residential audio systems. While the original Sonos Amp established itself as a go-to solution for two-channel distributed audio, Amp Multi builds on that concept, targeting multi-zone deployments that require higher channel density and greater configuration flexibility.

Sonos says Amp Multi was developed in close collaboration with integrators who are increasingly dealing with open floor plans and mixed-use living spaces. Rather than building fixed-zone hardware that forces rigid layouts, Sonos designed Amp Multi around adaptability. The platform allows any output to be assigned to any zone, supports up to four independent zones per unit, and can be scaled by stacking multiple amplifiers for larger installations or future growth. Sonos has also embedded installer-friendly tools, like an audible chirp triggered by the Sonos app that eliminates the need for manual PIN entry. The Sonos app also empowers integrators to manage zones, sources, and outputs more efficiently, while homeowners are left with an experience that, in theory, gives them access to audio on demand.

At the core of Amp Multi is an eight-channel amplification architecture rated at 125 watts per channel (8 ohms). Each output can drive up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, allowing a single chassis to support up to 24 speakers. It does so using a gallium nitride (GaN) power supply architecture paired with Class-D post-filter feedback amplification. This combination is intended to improve efficiency, reduce heat output, and maintain output stability under sustained loads. The system operates without active cooling fans, relying instead on convection-based thermal management to keep rack noise low while reducing long-term maintenance concerns related to dust buildup and moving parts.

With that kind of channel flexibility, Sonos gives installers access to ProTune, a new manual tuning package built into the hardware. ProTune grants per-output control over gain, delay offset, width adjustment, and a 10-band parametric equalizer, delivering precise compensation for room geometry, speaker placement challenges, and architectural constraints. Alongside ProTune, Sonos continues to support its Optimize Sonos Speakers DSP profiles, which apply pre-configured tuning curves for Sonos Architectural speaker models.

Physically, Amp Multi is designed for rack efficiency with a 1.5U chassis height and an optional dedicated 2U rack mount that creates built-in ventilation space above and below each unit. This approach reduces the need for additional vent panels while helping maintain consistent airflow in high-density racks. The flat-back chassis design and recessed connectors allow the unit to remain upright during installation, with the rack mount sliding into place using a simplified eight-screw mounting process.

Amp Multi will be available globally through Sonos installation partners in the coming months. Additional product details and integrator availability information can be found through Sonos’ professional distribution channels and at sonos.com.
