Secret No More: SVS's New Prime Pinnacle is (Officially) Unveiled

(January 22, 2019) SVS arrived in Las Vegas (CES 2019) with a secret stashed away in its crates of gear. Originally planned as a soft reveal – a “your eyes only” type of thing – the company came prepped with a bold banner, a static speaker display, and a live demo system. And, as it turns out, it was just too much to contain. And thus, the all-new Prime Pinnacle tower speaker went from a shadowy figure to an unmasked superhero, largely because nothing can hide from the Internet.

This is a rather significant moment for SVS, as it’s adding yet another tower to its repertoire. This one falls in between its acclaimed Ultra Tower and its (for lack of a better term) acclaimed Prime Tower. Obviously its name (Prime Pinnacle) links it to the Prime line of speakers… and SVS has positioned it as that line’s new headline model.

Physically speaking, Pinnacle looks like a happy blend of the company’s other two towers, with some similarities across drivers and hints of asymmetry on the external facings of the cabinet. In fact, to the eye, it’s a fantastic looking middle-ground blend of the two.

The speaker’s cabinet houses multiple drivers. Starting on the top, you’ll find an all-new 5.25” mid-range woofer that utilizes a composite glass-fiber cone, aluminum shorting ring, cast ABS-fiberglass composite basket, and vented voice coil former. Below that, there’s a 1” aluminum dome tweeter, followed by a triple stack of 6.5” high-performance woofers. On the backside, SVS has installed three ports for individual tuning of high, midrange, and bass frequencies.

Internally, the cabinet houses five self-contained chambers and angled bracing.

Spec-wise, the speaker carries a sensitivity of 88dB (fairly easy to drive) with a rated output of 29Hz-25 kHz (+/-3 dB). And it’s a relatively robust speaker, weighing-in at 57.1-pounds (unboxed) and standing 41.1" H x 8" W x 13.9" D (measurements include the grille, feet and binding posts).

Now for the million-dollar questions: Price and ship date. Unfortunately, I have no firm answer on either these. There’s discussion of a $1,500/pair price tag, but that number isn’t official or even close to being set in stone. As for availability, I believe we might see Pinnacle go for sale sometime this spring or summer. But, much like price, we’ll have to wait for official word from SVS.

Of course, this is very exciting news for home theater and two-channel fans. AV NIRVANA will pass along any new information as it becomes available.

Oh... btw, the speaker was in active demo at CES. Sounded REALLLLLY good to my ears. :T

Whoa, I can't wait to hear the latest Prime flagship. Having heard every other Prime offering, I bet this one offers the same great performance/value ratio.

Ahhhhhhh! Todd my man! I have 3 of the Prime Towers for my front 3 L C R's. I'm looking to upgrade them this year! Right now it's down to 3 SVS Ultra Towers. 3 Emotiva T2's and 3 of these gorgeous sweet looking nice trio of beauties up there!

I think you've mentioned you own the SVS ultra towers. What would you say to 3 of them in the front? Would they be a noticeable jump up from the Prime Towers?

And if so when you have time I have one or 2 questions about placement concerns with these I could get input from an owner on when you might have the time.

Ahhhhh decisions decisions I love it when you guys make me life delightfully more difficult in my next purchase! I mean half the fun is in the chase right? Lol. :jump:

What would I say to 3 Ultras up front? I say do it!. I'd like to ultimately have that set-up... three towers across the from eliminates the need for a center and that ultimately is better than 2 channels and a center. :T

As for other questions, fire up a thread in the speaker section and as away. I'm sure lots of folks would be happy to chime in!

Hey thanks for the input Todd! I appreciate your feedback. That's a good idea later this afternoon I'll post a thread to help get feedback from you guys on my placement concerns. If there's is no issues my goal will be to move forward with getting those ultra towers!

Very interesting... wonder if they will be at Axpona this year... would love to hear them.

Thanks for the update. Going from Prime towers to Pinnacle won't be much of an upgrade correct?

I have a lot of Prime time, a little Ultra time, and expect to hear the Pinnacle series, soon. Let's revisit this absolutely fair question after ears are laid on. :sun:

Hard to say... they’ve deployed some new tech - they sounded nice to my ears!!
