San Diego’s MrSpeakers Changes Its Name to Dan Clark Audio

(November 4, 2019) MrSpeakers, a maker of high-end headphones, has announced a brand-new identity. As of November 1, the company’s official name is Dan Clark Audio. The driving force behind the name change is quite simple: the MrSpeakers of old and Dan Clark Audio of new doesn’t offer a single speaker in its lineup.

The company’s founder and president, Dan Clark, explains: “In fact, there isn’t one speaker in our lineup. Personal audio is my true passion. It’s what drives me to develop headphones with direct appeal to discerning audiophiles and anyone who simply enjoys well-recorded music the way it was meant to be heard.”

Clark has spent over 20 years in the high-end audio industry, occupying a wide variety of roles ranging from retail, personal amp and electronics design, commercial and custom loudspeaker work for Platinum Audio, and (of course) designing headphones.

“My professional and personal lives intersect in high-fidelity audio, especially when it comes to designing headphones that ideally disappear, allowing listeners to get lost in the music,” adds Clark. “But I also know that my love of audio is leading me to explore how best to apply my experience for a wide range of products. By putting my name on the business, I gladly embrace full responsibility for every model with our logo.”

Dan Clark Audio currently carries three different headphone models, including Aeon, Ether, and Voce. Both Aeon and Ether are available in open and closed back, while the pricey Voce Electrostatic Headphone ($2,999) is open-back only.

I was going to open with humor aimed at equating headphones with ear speakers. Then I was glad I didn’t after quickly googling the phrase, which seems to have become synonymous with all manner of hearing devices including: earbuds, hearing aids, headsets, and finally... high end headphones.

So yes, Todd, thanks for saying Dan Clark Audio does not make speakers—ear or otherwise. It helps separate class acts from commodity vendors. And thank you for dipping below the surface to give us a better view of the man and his mission. It definitely prompted me to visit Dan’s site.

While I’m not in the market for ‘phones (....errrr, ear speakers) right now, Dan Clark Audio will be on my short list. I recently bought my first pair of planar magnetics fed by a class-A FET amp. Sweet! I’m a believer.

Signed,
Anxious future customer

LOL... great comments!

I've never had an opportunity to hear DCA headphones, either. Definitely curious! If you do, definitely report back. They look great!
