REW won't start under MacOS 27

HI,
my first message here, hope someone can help...i have used REW with different Macs (Macbooks, Mini) and it always worked fine even with latest MacOS 26.6.2.

But now after having installed MacOS27 my current REW 5.31.3 started but immediately stopped. After that nothing happened anymore. Same behaviour on two different installations.

Ok, let's install newest Beta 5.40.135.
This version just fails to install. It started and you see the progress bar pop up but then the pop-up vanishes and only the process REW-installer.api remains in the task bar. This process can only be stopped via hard kill option in the activity monitor.

I assume that there is maybe an issue around the java environment ? I saw some error logs regarding java when i tried to start 5.31.3. but surprisingly no logs during installation of 5.40.135.

I am not a super expert on REW, so i would very much appreciate if someone can help.

I have contacted the installer provider to see if they have any suggestions. I don't plan to install macOS 27 until 27.1 at the earliest since breaking apps seems to be a built-in feature of new macOS releases.

Please note that it’s working fine here, in 27.x, on several Macs.

I suggest you make another user account on your Mac, log in as that test user, and see if you can then get it installed.

Before doing so, remove all remnants of the previous install.

I’ve used the latest release, along with B134 and B135. All work fine, and the API server works fine for full A1 Evo AccoustiX setup too.

Thank you very much, that's good to know - so something is probably wrong with my installation (reminds me that I should do a complete fresh install of MacOs rather than upgrading the previous version (didn't do that for years)

That’s not the problem. MacOS installs now have their own selfstanding “image”; thre’s no point in reinstalling anymore - nothing will change in the image portion. The only thing you’d accomplish from doing that is generate work for yourself. The problem is most likely in your profile (/Users/yourname on your Mac’s drive); you could also remove all of that (at considerably higher ‘cost’) to fix the problem.

Simplest is as I wrote: create a user test user with password simple password, log in as test user using simple password, install the app, and confirm it works normally. If it does, it’s simply an issue in your profile (/Users/yourname) with the software’s preferences; find them, remove it, and you’re golden again.

If you need a hand in the above, post where you’re stuck and we can go over how to fix things up.

Thanks, i could successfully install REW with a test user account, now it comes to the difficult part of the story...find the issues in the preferences, i couldn't find at least any .plist file with a reference to REW (simply by looking at the file names) I will also try compare the settings in the system config with regard to program rights etc.

But at least i have a running REW, that is a first success.....

I would argue that REW is so infrequently used by most that this isn’t really an issue. For me, I used it for A1 Evo AccoustiX setup only - run it, enable the server API, run A1EA, and then 20 minutes later I was done, probably never to use it again. Does that describe you, or would you like to step through a few things we can do to try to fix things under your profile? (And - does it run now under your profile, or does it still just immediately quit?)

Yes, you are right, i use REW not every day, so the solution with the new user profile seems to be sufficient.

In my standard profile REW still quits immediately. So, someone is whispering in my ear, what is wrong with your profile and what is the real reason behind the problem that after installing V27 ? Are there other problems which i don't see ?

I would very much appreciate if you can provide me some further hints for fixing my profile (but i will totally understand if you have not the time for it)

Additionally you find enclosed an error log. For me it seems that there is something wrong with java

So, finally i solved it with a little help from Gemini....clearing all java rests and related preferences etc. didn't help , so i installed REW via test account in the Programs folder which is used for all users.
After that REW started with my standard profile/account but the main window didn't appear. Gemini gave me the advice to clear the font cache via "sudo atsutil databases -remove" and after restart ....... it started.

Puh, so thanks for your patience and your offered help, case closed. Maybe someone with similar problems in the future can use this
