the last time I took measurements I used to kill pulseaudio and then make measurements with direct access to Alsa.
now pipewire got in the way. and I got a new DAC, the okto research dac 8 stereo.
killing pulseaudio and pipewire does not work any more. REW says sample rates not supported (whichever I set). with pipewire, I can select the okto research entry , no errors, but I can only test the sound level once, and only if L+R output is selected. then as soon as I select L or R, silence. eventually, the connection is lost, the DAC shows pure dsd. evidently, something is messed up.

first and foremost: am I expected to use Rew with pipewire enabled?
second: how to work around the only l+r output mode working?

the rew version is the latest, 40. same issues with my previous version, beta 30

Both pulseaudio and pipewire are typically hard to kill as they get restarted. The way to go is to disable your audio device in PA/PW so that it is available to other alsa clients - such as REW using the alsa java connector.

While it was trivial to disable a device in PA, unfortunately it seems to be more complicated in PW. Typically people use a script for wireplumber - see one in https://forum.root.cz/index.php?topic=31553.msg432923#msg432923 (you may need to run the post through translator to english for details).
