(October 15, 2020) PSB Speakers has unleashed two new wallet-friendly power speaker models. The Alpha AM3 ($399/pr) and Alpha AM5 ($599/pr) are nearly identical save for minor size and output differences. Both feature PSB’s proprietary Alpha drivers, with 4” and 5.25” textured polypropylene cone woofers, respectively, 3/4” aluminum dome tweeters, and detachable magnetic grilles.
“Beyond the Alpha AM’s compact size, affordability and versatility of application is a sonic performance that clearly lives up to the PSB heritage, commented Joe de Jesus, Lenbrook’s Product Manager for PSB Speakers. “Like all PSB speakers, final voicing was performed by Founder and Chief Designer, Paul Barton, at Canada’s famed National Research Council.”
With integrated aptX Bluetooth, a dedicated RCA phono input, 3.5mm analog and optical digital inputs, and USB connectivity, both Alpha AM speakers can be fed a variety of sources. Of course, the use of onboard amplification (35W x 2 for the AM3, 50W x 2 for the AM5) means that set up is simple, eliminating the need for an external receiver or amp. And the presence of quality Bluetooth streaming allows for simple wireless playback from capable computers, TVs, and handheld devices.
Onboard processing gives owners the choice to engage one of several sound modes, including dialog and soundstage enhancers. Additionally, each speaker carries a dedicated sub output, allowing owners to recruit the use of a powered subwoofer for additional low-end output.
PSB Speaker’s Alpha AM3 and AM5 Compact Powered Speakers come in Matte White and Matte Black and are available for purchase now.
