(September 5, 2019) PSB Speakers is using the grand stage of Rocky Mountain Audio Fest to launch two new highly affordable subwoofer models. Priced at $549 (Alpha S10) and $449 (Alpha S8), both subs are designed to be easy on the wallet without skimping on output. As its model number indicates, the S10 features a 10” driver comprised of a polypropylene cone and rubber surround, while its smaller sibling sports an 8” driver. Power is supplied by an onboard 150 watt digital amplifier capable of delivering 210 watts of dynamic power.

“Alpha products enjoy a long and successful history for PSB and have developed a reputation for outsized performance at their given price points.” commented Paul Barton, founder and still Chief Engineer of PSB Speakers. “Earlier this year, we launched a new range of four Alpha models which were the first ones in nearly twenty years. The new Alphas have been enthusiastically received with requests for subs to complement them. Thought they do that quite well, the S10 and S8 are equally well suited for use with any quality speaker for music or movies.”

PSB says the S10 and S8 will be available for purchase next month. Read the company’s complete press release, below.

Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, Aurora, CO, September 3, 2019 -– PSB Speakers, long renowned for affordable excellence in loudspeaker design, introduced two new affordable subwoofers for high quality music and movie listening. The Alpha S10 ($549 U.S. MSRP) and the Alpha S8 ($449 U.S.) follow the highly successful launch of four critically-acclaimed Alpha models earlier this year. The S10 and S8, shown here at RMAF, will be available this October.

The Alpha DSP Controlled Powered Subwoofers offer compact, high performance versatility for home theater and music applications where effective deep-bass reproduction is a must. The Alpha S10 and Alpha S8 meet the challenge with specialized long-throw drivers and efficient, bass-extending bass reflex enclosures. Both models employ digital signal processing (DSP) to allow PSB’s engineering team to maximize all aspects of performance to deliver the flattest frequency response and powerful bass extension. The built-in high efficiency digital amplifiers deliver 210W of dynamic power for unconstrained deep-bass peaks and musical accuracy.

The Alpha S10 and S8 subs are both bass reflex designs with a rear port housed in compact cabinets of black woodgrain. The S10 features a 10” woofer with polypropylene cone and rubber surround while the Alpha S8 sports an 8” woofer. Other than woofer size, the two new PSB subs have similar feature sets and utilize the same 150 Watt digital amplifier and variable crossover from 50-150Hz.
On the rear panel are Volume and Crossover Controls, Phase Switch, Low Level Input, AutoOn/Standby Switch, Gold-plated RCAs, USB Power Jack for RT100 wireless accessory, Supplied rubber bumpers and spikes allow for installation on hardwood or carpeted floors.

Like all PSB speakers, final voicing is performed by Founder and Chief Designer, Paul Barton, at Canada’s famed National Research Council. PSB’s research has discovered how listener preferences can be integrated into a wide range of speaker designs for many different applications, yet all featuring consistent sound quality that is natural and lifelike.
