I have some questions in regard to using the player for high quality 2 channel audio. I have really never dabbled in this area. As currently setup it is just hdmi video/audio out to AVR. Would I just connect the L/R 2 channel audio out on the player to the L/R audio in on the AVR under CD player? Would this override or cause issues with those speaker channels when running hdmi audio for movies? Below are a photo of the back of the UN9000 and x8500h AVR. With the connections I was thinking I should use, or should I just use a digital optical?

I do not think so, but for purest audio it might be good if you plugged in the rca cables from the back of the player to the left and right rca jacks at the 7.1 inputs just to the right and above the cd inputs. It is listed as item number 6 in the photo above. I spend some time with an engineer from another company who indicated that all inputs tend to run through the processor in the pre-pro except for the 7.1 channel inputs. The upside is it is almost a straight wire with gain as there are not tone or sub-woofer controls etc. The down side is that there are no tone or sub woofer controls I see that the Panasonic has a 7.1 channel out as well and I would recommend you try your cables between the 7.1 channel out of the player and the 7.1 channel in on the pre pro.

@Jack So, yesterday for the first time I put a cd in the Pani UB9000 and pushed play. The display showed it playing, but I did not get any audio? Currently the player is hooked too my AVR with Hdmi only. (The hdmi video/audio port).

Is there a setting in the Pani UB9000 I have to change too play cds? If I put a cd in my Samsung 4K player it just plays.

May I suggest checking in the set up menu of the Denon and tell it the hdmi input you are using and then under input select I think it is, tell the AVR to playback on HDMI.
It may be set to something else for cd playback. I have had this set up issue with my ex Denon before.
I do not know if this will cure your issue Phillip but in reality your disc should output sound right out of the box when you put in a CD

So in conclusion:
I have the Pani UB9000 connected to the denon as such, Pani hdmi video/audio out to denon hdmi Blu-ray. If I place a cd in the Pani it will not output the audio unless a display is on (tv, projector). I find this stupid, must be something to do with hdcp over hdmi.

So to resolve the issue I also hooked rca jacks from the Pani rca L/R unbalanced into the denon rca for CD.
Now i can play cd’s without turning my projector on.

I am going too verify if the UB820 acts in the same manner.

Hi, I have a question on PLEX playback from my NAS on the UB820....assume it may be the same as the UB9000. I am having an issue with playback of .mkv files - video, but no audio. When I play back the same file using my NVIDIA Shield TV, audio works fine. Any suggestions for troubleshooting/resolving this issue? I prefer the video on my UB820....but I need sound!
Thanks

I think you might be up against a brick wall... the UB9000 won't allow any of their devices to play audio formats from ripped Blu-ray disc NAS files that do not have the HDCP copy-write protection flag in the ripped content.
