I am currently researching options for painting DIY speakers and have heard a lot about something called Duratex. The speakers would not hidden in the listening room. I know that Duratex is a textured paint but would like to know why someone would choose it over a straight black satin finish. I've never used it. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the subject.

I used it on a couple of subwoofers I built a few years ago. Here's that thread with some pics: https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/d...max-sub-kit-um18-22-and-denovo-flatpack.1453/

It turned out pretty well and it's extremely durable. I think the reason it might be better over a non-textured finish would be that it's more forgiving for perfection when applying it. However, if you have a sprayer for the non-textured paint, there is likely less room for error.

Thanks for the link. The textured finish looks on a subwoofer but the speakers I'm building/restoring will be LCRs and I think a smooth finish may suit the type of speaker better. Better get my sprayer ready!
