So OPPO has begun shipping the new UDP-205 player. I got mine on order yesterday and it should be arriving next week.

Todd wrote a informative news article about it if you want to take a peek at it: OPPO Digital's Highly Anticipated UDP-205 is Available for Purchase

Todd will also be reviewing the UDP-205 player in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned!

Even though I don't yet have a 4K display, I will be acquiring one in the next week or so, if all goes well. I have already ordered new HDMI cables and several UHD titles.

I also ordered a Roku Ultra to replace the Netflix that was in my BDP-105 and will be missing from the 205, which I am not complaining about... I am fine with the Roku and it does UHD/4K as well.

Did you order one or have plans to order it?

I look forward to hearing others impressions. I was looking at getting one of those later this year for my future cinema rig and home use.

I reviewed the 203 and it was everything you'd expect from OPPO. Incredible gear and UHD performance was spot-on. If memory serves, my review sample had beta firmware (for a lack of a better term), and the company has continued to make performance improvements. Dolby Vision will be activated some time this year!

The 205 should deliver the exact same video performance, with the added benefit of vastly superior DAC and the ability to act as a headphone amp. I'm a PM-3 owner and look forward to hearing how the 205 handles output in that department.

OPPO is a class act company, top to bottom, and their products are industry leaders... great to see them in the 4K game!

Not in the budget today! Hopefully soon. I may have to find somebody with last years model.:whistling:

As much as I would like to have all the audio benefits from the 205, plus the big one for me is the headphone amp built-in, I just can't see myself paying $750 more. Well actually it would be more than that since I'm out of the return window for the 203 and now I would have to sell the 203 at a loss.

Still, I do love all the Oppo products that I've owned! They have not let me down yet. Especially in the last few years, all their products have just screamed hi-quality in both build material and performance!

I'll be interested in hearing your impressions Sonnie, as well as Todd's review of the 205!

So are you upgrading the 105 or do you have a 203?

I am going from the 105 myself, so I won't be needing it. It ought to be worth quite a bit with all the tweaks I've made to it... and how well broken in it is. Plus the fact it's been used in my room and produced music thru all may various speakers. That's a pretty amazing honor if you ask me.

I need to figure out a way to make use of the analog outputs to take advantage of the DAC, but I don't see a way to do it and be able to use the video too, not thru the Denon 4300 anyway. HDMI is going to take precedent over analog.

My 205 arrives tomorrow, but I won't get to hook it up until Thursday evening. :hissyfit:

I would have to look it up again, but I thought that was the reason for the two HDMI outputs. I thought one for video to the projector. But I don't know that for sure.

Yes, the dual HDMI outputs are for legacy AV receivers that are being used with a 4K display. You can output 4K direct to the television... and separately route audio direct to the AVR.
