(January 8, 2018) Onkyo has launched a new Hi-Res digital audio player at CES 2018. The all-new PD-S10 Digital Audio Player with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ($499) looks to be another strong segment entry.

The PD-S10 features a body machined from a solid block of aluminum and a responsive touchscreen that allows for one-handed operation. Onkyo says the unit’s interface utilizes tile-based icons that can be easily arranged, while music can be sorted and selected using a flickable side-mounted scrolling wheel.

Internally, the PD-S10 houses dual ESS SABRE ESS9018C2M DACs and dual SABRE ESS9601K amplifiers. The DACs and amps are integrated on separate circuit boards to deliver fully balanced circuit performance. In addition, newly designed polymer chip capacitors double power supply capacitance for reduction in noise around the DSP and memory processors.

Playback functionality includes native DSD 5.6 MHz, MQA, and FLAC/WAV/ALAC (up to 192 kHz/32-bit) for a true Hi-Res experience.

Connections include 3.5 mm and 2.5 mm 4-pole balanced headphone jacks, in addition to a USB/OTG terminal that supports digital audio output to selected audio components with direct compatibility.

The PD-S10 is currently scheduled to ship sometime during March.
