I tried calibration of my sound card. The octa capture is supposed to be a flat hi res sound card. My measurements look awful. Something wromg???

ASIO 48k loopback on ch8, audio out on ch 3-4 did all the pre setup to -12dbfs on in and outs with 1k
Any help much apricated, the response is ugly and phase is just wrong. something is wrong @John Mulcahy Any ideas. Thank you so much!

Andrew

That's just a capture of noise, the sort of thing you might see on an unconnected input. For the soundcard cal the loopback cable goes from the output you will use for measurement to the input you will use for measurement.

Okay , so I need to make a cal for each channel?

In the setup I got output and input both show signal , the output showed -12db and the input I adjusted so it was also -12db , so it shows there’s signal passing those input and output

Nothing in ASIO control panel looks wrong….

If you look at the second measurement I took I’ve added 1/3 smoothing so I could see the response, I have no microphones hooked up at all so it’s not picking up microphone background noise like I sent it to the wrong channel or some thing there’s literally no microphones plugged in at all.

I can try making a calibration on different inputs and outputs and see if I can get it that way, but it definitely showed a signal on the output and on the input

I’m still a little confused, but thank you now I know what noise looks like so at least I know what is going on there.

You don't need to calibrate all the channels, just check one. Are you sure it was the measurement input channel showing level and not the ref input channels? Those measurements show the input was 1: IN 1-2 and the output was 3: OUT 3-4, was there a loopback connection from output 3 to input 1?

The Ref in looks fine (presumably the cable from output 4 goes to input 8?), In1 looks low - do you have a cable from output 3 to input 1?

Aah no , I only have cable to 8 in

So I need to add another one to input 1 also?

When you do the soundcard calibration you only need a cable from the measurement output (3 in your case) to the measurement input (1 in your case). You don't need anything else connected. It is a calibration of the measurement path.

Okay I’ll try it on 1

Thank you

So I don’t need it on both eight and one just one for the calibration and then I can switch it back to channel 8 for loop back?
