Im a newbie to rew and trying to get my sound card calibrated. made loopback connection, but can't get any input on IN or refIN meters.

using
mac sys 10.13.6
focusrite sapphire pro 14

am i correct in assuming i don't need a mic for this step?
input and output device are set to sapphire
1/4" mono cable between input 3 and output 3 on focusrite

Correct, no mic is needed.

It’s possible that interface is too complicated. REW seems to work best with simple interfaces – i.e., two ins, two outs. My only suggestion is to try a different pair of ins and outs.

Ultimately, you only need the calibration for an acoustical reference, if that’s what you’re intending to measure. It’s not needed for frequency response measurements, as virtually all such devices these days are ruler-flat to the extremities.

Wayne

Make sure you select the input and output, not just the input and output device, and then the channel. Also check the device is configured for multichannel in Audio Midi Setup. This guide may be useful for Mac setup.
