- Summary
- Murideo’s second-generation STIX Generator and Analyzer refine what was already a compact and effective HDMI 2.1 testing solution. The addition of female HDMI ports, menu refinements, and a bandwidth selection tool make these tools even more capable in the field. Whether you’re verifying full 48Gbps throughput, checking HDCP compliance, or running extended stability tests on passive and active HDMI cables, the STIX ecosystem is a reliable and affordable alternative to higher-priced kits. Ideal for integrators, calibrators, and enthusiasts who want a no-compromise signal verification tool in a highly portable package.
HDMI Test Bench is back in action, and this time we're taking a deep dive into Murideo’s latest hardware refresh: the 2nd Gen STIX HDMI 2.1 Signal Generator and Analyzer, now outfitted with female HDMI ports. These compact tools are small enough to slip into a pocket, but don’t let the size fool you; there’s a lot of horsepower packed inside.
Priced at $289 each, these new STIX units offer a significant cost reduction compared to Murideo’s full-sized 8K Fox & Hound Kit, while maintaining full 48Gbps throughput and essential HDMI 2.1 test functionality. You’ll also find some thoughtful upgrades that elevate usability over STIX male options, including a new multi-function rotary navigation button, expanded bandwidth control, and the addition of an audible test tone to confirm audio signal transmission.
Power is delivered via USB-C, and while these units don’t have internal batteries, they’re easy to run off wall adapters or portable power bricks. With vivid displays, onboard menus, and full compatibility across resolutions from 720p to 8K—including 4K120 with 4:4:4 chroma and 12-bit color depth—STIX can be used to test cables, sources, and endpoints in nearly any setup.
In our video review, we explore real-world use cases, including long-term cable stability tests and in-system signal tracing. We also talk about one minor gripe in the interface and how Murideo could improve it even further. But in the grand scheme, this second-gen update hits all the right notes.
So, is the new female version of STIX worth the extra $40 over the original? And can it truly deliver full-bandwidth 48Gbps testing with the flexibility pro integrators and enthusiasts demand?
