(January 31, 2019) The model name might not catch your eye, but Alcons Audio’s latest reference 2-way passive speaker is certainly a looker. The all-new CRMSC-SRHV120 is a compact horizontal and vertical reference surround that features Alcons patented pro-ribbon driver transducer technology.

The pro-ribbon driver is one of the CRMSC-SRHV120’s touted features, one that Alcons says issues “exceptional clarity and intelligibility with a usually high dynamic range.” Paired with a vented 6.5” Neodymium mid-bass woofer, the pro-ribbon and its revolvable RBN waveguide helps to produce a very wide vertical (90-degrees) and horizontal (120-degrees) dispersion pattern that extends the “stereo sweet spot” over a large area. Additionally, the high frequency section of the speaker has a 500 watt peak power input that allows for a 1:16 dynamic range “with up to 90% less distortion from 1 kHz to beyond 20 kHz.”

The speaker offers mounting flexibility for both horizontal and vertical applications, along with a choice of two impedance versions (4 ohms and 8 ohms). The company also says the CRMSC-SRHV120’s Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wired cable compensation insures response accuracy regardless of cable length and system impedance when paired with an amplified loudspeaker controller (ALC).

The CRMSC-SRHV120 is designed for commercial cinema, studio, and home use. The speaker will be integrated as part of a StormAudio/Alcons Audio system at ISE 2019. You can read more about that system, here. Attendees can find the system in Hall 6-H150.

I'm curious too, Matt. Neat concept. You can use these as surrounds or ceiling channels. I'd like to see some size/weight specs. They weren't available last week.
