Hey there was a little PEQ applied at the end to get it a little better. But the end result on its own wasn’t bad. The main issue I left with was that the entire system was in a single 15 amp circuit and was so overloaded that the voltage sag was causing very early clipping. I decided to intentionally neuter the system to avoid the clipping and ride in distortion best I could.
It’s not on the video, but Matt had a dedicated 20amp circuit added and I came back the next weekend to redo the EQ a bit.
The one last thing that needed to be done was fixing the time alignment. The subs are lagging the mains a bit. There is a way in Dirac to bypass its level and delay control. However it is currently throwing an error every time I try to do this. We are not sure the cause and working with the processor manufacturer to figure out the source.
Right now the system isn’t bad considering the subs placement and room limitations. It’s a huge open space and while the R210S is very capable, that size room and the bass expectations of the client mean more bigger subs are needed, ideally. Room mode issues and overall spatial consistency can only be further improved with more subs in more optimal locations, and it’s not practical on an open concept great room/kitchen like this.
The one nice thing about this space is that because it is so big the modal issues are less severe than in smaller rooms. So while a few remained I couldn’t totally resolve, they were pretty mild.
