Just got a lot of new information on Magnetar's new UDP900. Here's just two items of info:

The MSRP is $2,999, and expected launch date is the week of June 26th and possibly sooner.

Here's the link to our UDP900 webpage with more info and new pictures. I also have pictures of Magnetar's UDP900 at HighEnd 2023 Munich show.

Just got an update that Magnetar's UDP900 very first allocation/shipment will arrive at our store next week.

I'll immediately be putting two on display/demo. One in our suite of 14 Cinema Demo Rooms that will send the lossless signal with the full 48 GBPS via AVPro's HDMI Matrix switch. The 2nd display/demo unit will go in our main A/V Showroom that has 16 of the new 2023 TVs.

We just received magnetar's very first allocation of their new flagship UDP900 Universal Disc Players!

I'm taking one home to set-up in our home theater room and we just setup one in our suite of 15 Cinema Demo Rooms.

Magnetar's UDP900 design and build quality are Ultra Premium as are the features and performance.

What is the "Firmware update" option that I see on the company website?

Thx
I believe that is the region-free upgrade.

Really curious if these are any better than my UB9000.

I have a few SACD and DVD-A that I'd love the opportunity to listen to occasionally.

Not sure if the analog out would be much benefit, but my MK3 does have XLR analog inputs.

Also not sure if I like the checkerboard front on the 900 model. Solid would have been better for sure... IMO of course.

Magnetar's UDP900 and the UDP800 are premium Universal Disc players and have built-in streaming apps. They use OPPO's audio and video processors and high-end dual power supplies and a very premium form fit and build quality.

Here's a very informative article in the trade magazine Residential Systems :

@Sonnie & @Robert Zohn any comments on this machine?
I have yet to splurge on one. For me, it's almost hard to justify as I've been cheating a lot lately by streaming the movies I've wanted to see instead of purchasing them. While I do own a few SACD and DVD-Audio discs, I'm not sure it would be worth the expense to maybe listen to those once every so often.

If I decide to buy something, it would probably be one of these and I'd definitely get it from Robert. :)

Thank you for your reply.

Sounds like a definite replacement for Oppo.
Do you still sell them?
If so, internationally?
Are they easily serviced.

Do you have player that has analogue inputs?
Not many left now.

Thanks for posting this, Robert. I love the look of the UDP900. If I were still spinning lots of discs, I'd probably be inclined to sell my Oppo 205 and run with this. But, I have the Oppo in place for SACDs (the few that I own) and the Panny UB9000 that I bought from you for movie duties.

Kscape has really taken over the vast majority of my movie time in the theater room.

I'm curious: do you happen to know if the design team behind this product was also involved with Oppo designs? I can't remember if Oppo was designed in-house or if they were strictly the manufacturer. It looks like a gorgeous piece of equipment. Definitely something you want have seen, rather than hidden away!

That's a shame.
I'm looking at where I could purchase and if servicing is world wide. Magnetar doesn't seem to want to answer back re questions.
As I have said I would like to purchase a very good sounding machine (with 7 multichannel inputs) and sounds like this one is it.
Is there any other avenues I could go down from your experience?
Thank you for your time and support.
My opolgies for not getting back to you.

I have not heard this, but I know I buy a lot fewer discs than I ever have because I've been streaming the movies. I just ordered a Kaleidescape system from Robert, which means it could be a very long time before I buy another disc because I'll be downloading them from Kaleidescape.

I love the look of the UDP900.

Interesting. I think this player is hideously ugly. Instead of the classy, understated quality look, they went with the "HEY LOOK AT ME" aesthetic. Like buying a nice Audi and covering it with stickers and a fluorescent green gas cap door.

Yeah... I'm not a fan either. I wish it had the faceplate like the OPPO 205 and I'd probably buy it. The 800 is better, but still two-tone. I like my 9000 front... smooth brushed and sleek, not as obtrusive.

I'm now curious about the Reavon players, they have a source direct mode like the OPPO players, and a much classier front panel. I may have to hit up @Robert Zohn in the coming weeks...

They do look nice and I want to say they are reviewed well and right up there with the best. I want to say they are similar in price too.

I thought you were looking for a "budget" player?

I can't explain my brain. If I could get any recommendations for a budget player that hadn't already been ruled out, I would, but I haven't yet. The Reavon checks all the boxes except budget, and it even has a solid Home Assistant integration already out there.

Travis, I actually like the fix, finish and premium build quality of Panasonic's flagship UB900P1k.

Blu-ray sales are still selling steadily by the enthusiasts that don't want to invest in Kaleidescape.

Kaleidescape is the very best solution for enthusiasts as it delivered the very best audio and video quality and the user interface is very easy to use and has very nice features. It's also nice to have all of your premium movie content in one place and very easily accessible.

I'm 99% Kaleidescape, but I have a handful of titles that aren't available there, and my PLEX server has been downsized and only using AppleTV for playback, so not getting full Atmos or DTS through there.

I do like the fit and finish of the Panasonic player as well, but have been reading that their processing has been known to cause some edge case issues with other items in my signal path, so looking elsewhere. My Sony died, so I don't plan on going that route again. I honestly wish I'd just held onto my Oppo 205, but I didn't.

Which brings me to the Reavon...
