Hey Folks, we're hosting a live stream with StormAudio this afternoon at 1PM Eastern. We'll be chatting about Storm's new ISP Core 16 and diving into Room Correction. You can watch on our Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/AV_NIRVANA) or participate on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/avnirvana) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr6mZBg650KABsJ1Q3RPmCA).

See you there!

Totally missed it... was super busy today anyway. Did we record it?

Thanks Todd. It’s always enjoyable getting a bit of deep dive from a manufacturer.

One correction should be made. Monoprice HTP-1 owners ARE supposed to get access to a HDMI 2.1 upgrade. The unit will need to be sent to Monoprice for the board change. I’ve not seen either price or date to be available.

I wish there had been time to also explore a comparison to Trinnov too.

Awesome video Todd... we need to do more of those for sure.

Kind of fell off a cliff there, at the end of the week... and this came together last minute, so we had zero time to advertise it. My fault!

Here's a link the to the video:
. I think I might go ahead and post this in the tech talk section. Maybe rename the section Live Stream?

@JStewart, thanks for pointing out that clarification. Yes, I did some research afterward and found the same thing. I guess we'll have to wait and see if Monoprice delivers on that promise.

Trinnov is definitely a much more leveled comparison, though they are on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to Monoprice, being more expensive. But, they're definitely a competitor that Storm has its eye on. Storm has some interesting products in the pipeline, so I'm sure we'll get a chance to chat with them again.

If it's something you are going to do regularly... that would be fantastic.

That will be awesome. The biggest difference seems to be in room correction software, Trinnov’s own vs. Dirac with Bass Control. The discussion of the volume control went over my head but was interesting. I wouldn’t mind the chance to learn more.
Have to give you props for the Monoprice comparison. That is after all the question anyone in the market is most interested in, “what is the benefit for the additional expense”. The bass management feature to steer the re-directed bass to a nearby sub seems valuable. In hindsight too, as often as audio and video codecs, upmixers and hdmi standards have changed, if I had bought a Storm or Trinnov a decade or so ago, I’d probably have spent the same as I have on multiple AVRs and the HTP-1. And I would have spent a lot less time “beta testing” supposedly finished products. Live and learn I guess. Still, the journey has been fun... to a point.

I was surprised they were willing to openly discuss another brand. But, to your point, a lot of folks do default to comparisons with a less expensive alternative.

To Storm’s point, quite a few companies talk about modularity and upgradability, but how often is it actually exercised in a meaningful way? Not often.

There’s also unique proprietary features, like Storm’s bass control and the new StormXT.
