lot of news today in regards to this..

from msn,
"LG isn’t waiting until CES to reveal one of its high-end living room gadgets for 2018: it’s a 4K HDR projector. LG claims the new UHD projector is roughly half the size of competing 4K options on the market, many of which are “heavy, expensive, and difficult to install” according to the company.

The HU80KA, by contrast, is being pitched as an “affordable yet premium device” that can output a 150-inch picture in any room of your house. That picture can get awfully bright, too; LG says it tops out at 2,500 lumens, which makes it the company’s brightest projector yet and puts it on par with what’s on the market today.

On top of the 4K resolution, you also get support for HDR video with HDR10. (There’s no mention of Dolby Vision, sadly.) The projector can be positioned on the floor, mounted to the wall, or hung from the ceiling, and LG says it’ll work great in any of those setups."

Great. Let us know your thoughts. :)

Based on other short throw projectors, I'm skeptical that its ultimate picture quality will be top notch. But, we'll see.

Looked very good at CES. Look forward to getting our evaluation sample in April. No official price announced yet.

Let us know what the MSRP is when you find out Robert. I'm guessing it will be up in that $10-15K range.

mech, you will be very very happy when we announce LG HU80K price! Did I say very very very happy :)

Based on other short throw projectors, I'm skeptical that its ultimate picture quality will be top notch. But, we'll see.

I have a feeling that things may be changing for the better with regards to this. I saw an LS100 recently and while it's only 1080P, it looked good on a 90" screen. I'll be interested to see how this one looks when it comes out.

LG's HU80KA is $2,999 UPP and will be available bu the end of May.

Here's a few of the key features:

- 2500 peak luminance

- webOS 3.5 built-in

- UHD/HDR capable

- Up to 20,000 hrs of laser bulb life

- 3 table top/floor operational positions plus ceiling mountable

Do you have one of these in-store, Robert? Curious to get some of your impressions if you do.

Sorry to say the mass production was pushed back to the end of May. I am getting a loaner of the final engineering HU80KA production later this week.

At CES and the few LG dealer shows I attended the demonstrations showed excellent image performance. Here's a quick look from our friend Caleb Dennison of Digital Trends.

Wow, prices are dipping into the affordable range!

Yes, and for a UHD/HDR laser projector this is a very compelling price point.

It's definitely an interesting product. Now that you mention it, Robert, I did see it at CES.

I've been holding out some important information on all of you. It's been killing me to keep this secret, but I was on a gag order and just got the moratorium lifted.
I have the HU80KA engineering production unit in our theater demo room for the past two weeks! I been watching 4K UHD/HDR Netflix, Amazon, Youtube and 4K UHD/HDR BDs. Here's the link to our dedicated HU80KA page.

Love the built-in webOS 3.5, the OTA and QAM tuners, Wi FI and Bluetooth wireless speaker links, love the 2,500fL laser light output for very pleasing HDR performance.

For now I'll just give my one word review "Awesome, amazing, spectacular, breathtaking, price/performance King of HDR projection" Sorry I could not help myself. It's easy to see how Projector Central gave this a 5 star review in every category and made it the "Editor's Choice"

Here's a few cell phone pics:

Next week I'll be taking CMS and luminance measurements.

So your saying this "IS" the projector to buy given its price point?

Im in the market for a 4K projector probably some time early next year so I will keep this on my radar as it sure seems to be a winner. Being in Canada prices and availability are sometimes a hindrance but we will see how this goes.

That seems like a crazy good price. I’m half tempted to buy this and figure out a way to employ it in my multi-use family room.

Just got permission to show my HU80KA to visitors. Let me know if anyone is interested in an audition.

This is the 1st open to the public viewing in the USA.

This is awesome. I am glad that finally someone had the will to try something different as design goes. You can piratically take it with you anywhere. I am definitely considering to go camping now!
