Todd wrote a news article about Kaleidescape a good while back, when I completely ignored it due to what I thought was an outrageous price. He wrote another article here recently, https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/kaleidescape-celebrates-20-years-of-innovation.8423/ and the price has dropped significantly. It's still not cheap by any means, but considerably less than they use to be. I couldn't figure out a way to justify it initially, but after talking with the guys at Kaleidescape they twisted my arm and made me buy one... threatened me if I didn't, so I gave in and they shipped me one. Hopefully Todd will get to review one soon and by that time I'll have had some good use with mine and can throw in my two cents worth.

Initially, there are a lot of movies available that I already have, but they do have a Blu-ray player that if I have the Blu-ray copy, I can upgrade to 4K (if available) for a small fee, so not all is lost.

One small benefit is Roger Water's The Wall Blu-ray Atmos is available for only $14.99, significantly cheaper than trying to buy it on Amazon (for our region). At one time it as $86.

All of the 4K movies I've downloaded thus far only took about an hour to download, thanks to our fairly respectable fiber speeds thru TroyCable.

I think it will take me some time to determine if it's worth it. The new releases are still not flowing like they were a couple of years ago. As they begin to pickup and I start to buy more movies, perhaps I'll be able to say if I believe I made the right move with it. It's all still new to me, but thus far I like using it for what little I've used it.

Oh well... after a couple of weeks I already realize I'm just not going to be downloading enough movies to make this worth the cost. I feel like the quicker I sell it, the less I'll lose, so it has been listed for sale. You really need to be a serious movie watcher, and probably like a variety of movie types to make it of value. I am very select on my movies and really don't watch that many. I guess it took me spending money to figure that out.
