Curious if there is significant improvement going from the NX9 to NZ9... anyone have any thoughts? It would not be professionally calibrated... don't think there is anyone in this area that does them anyway.

What I'd ideally like is a UST projector or a OLED/QLED at close to 100", but I don't think UST will ever compete with the NX9/NZ9 long throw. I'm not sure about the large LED TV displays. I have a 128" screen now... so I'd be downsizing going to a LED TV.

Sonnie, was it a startling change to go from a 128" screen to your 100" TV. Specifically, with the size difference I mean.

Not at all... keep in mind that the screen was mostly 98" anyway unless I zoomed out on the 2.35:1 movies, but I rarely did... I just left it smaller than the screen. All the TV shows I watch are 98" at 16:9 (or there about - Netflix can be a little different). The 128" was just too big for me to grasp the entire screen. My right eye is already suffering from optic nerve damage that can't be repaired, so it's fuzzy, which makes it even more difficult to capture anything larger than right around that 100" mark. I might shoot for 110" at some point, but really I think 100" is most betta.

Sounds like it was a great move overall for you going from a PJ to the TV. How far away are you sitting?

Yeah... I'm very happy with the move.

100" at 10 feet? Sounds plenty immersive to me! What a great setup!

i can still see their relevance at 100”+, otherwise I’d guess panels would be the way to go. I would think that a panel much larger than that would be hard to get into certain spaces of many houses. My 77” just barely fit down the stairwell into my basement. If I’m ever going to go larger (I sure hope so!) it’s going to have to be a projector. Or a modular panel I suppose.

If you have a 100” screen, you should be putting projectors in the rear view mirror.

I think projectors are already niche, but we have a long way to go before they're obsolete.

For one, I couldn't get a 100" TV into my theater room without removing a window somewhere, if that would even work. I'm not even sure about that.

It all hinges on ones budget and intent, right?! So, I personally am not a fan of UST projectors. I like the ability of using a NX or NZ9 with a 140" - 180" scope screen with a DCR lens, Lumagen or MadVR, and AT screen! This will allow you to line the wall around the screen, ceiling, and walls 2 - 3ft out with black velvet allowing for better contrast and the floating screen in a void affect!

As far as I know, the top OLED DV display makers aren't making much beyond 77"...unfortunately! I will agree that a Sony A95L QD-OLED is going to be the best PQ you can find, but if you have the money and need a large DV display, microLED technology is getting there QUICK!!! The pixel pitch on the residential side are so dense now that you can get a 20ft wide display in native 4K that gives OLED a run for it's money! Of course it's going to run you $400,000 but if you're the kind of person with fun money...why not have that in your living room and projector & screen in your dedicated HT!

I guess, what I'm gettin at, is there's a ton of great options based on your budget! If I had the money...I'd line the walls of my house in microLED panels LOLOL!

I ended up with the Sony 98X90L 98" display for now... loving it. I might eventually upgrade to the OLED LG or something along those lines at some point in time. It will be interesting to see what surfaces with the micro LED panels.

Hisense 100U8K flat panel television
I recently upgraded our flat panel to the 100" Hisense U8K. The room this unit is in has a lot of natural light and is used on a daily basis. So far, I am really happy with the picture quality. The blacks on this mini led panel are very black. Bars at the top and bottom of a widescreen picture are barely noticeable. I'm convinced that 100 inches or so is about the limit for a single LED panel. The set weighs nearly 200 lbs and is just unwieldy for 2 people to install. I think the future of larger flat panels are going to have to be modular. It will, indeed, be very interesting to see how the micro LED technology progresses.

Our Sony is about 150 lbs... and it was a slight challenge to get it lifted up on our stand. There was no easy way to lift it, even with the rear handles, which I was not so sure about, although I don't Sony would design them where they couldn't handle it... just a little uneasiness with it all.

That would scare the bejesus out of me. Again, Sony probably put them there for a reason, but still.

A lower stand is not a big deal, but ours is about 4ft off the floor, so grab the handle with one hand and use the other hand to guide the top, as you can't squeeze too much on the panel. It was a bit hairy when we lifted it up.

That's the thing, the squeeze. I am so afraid to put any pressure at all on the screen. God forbid I have someone helping me who doesn't care the way that I do...

Yeah... I was coaching the guy helping me... making sure he used every caution in not squeezing too much but maintaining control at the same time. It's a delicate and hairy event.
