Woot, Woot!
Would love to hear comments on their room correction, bass mgmt, and if a consumer can set one up on their own or is setup always included with a new purchase.
Oh,and they have remote support, yes? What can’t they do remotely?
How well does remapping work vs recommended placement? How well does it work with mapping between different decoder recommendations?
What are the DTS pro advantages?
As you can see , I’ve never given any thought to this processor. ;)
Thanks, Todd!

I'd be interested to know if they would ever consider partnering with a larger manufacturer again, like they did with the Sherwood Newcastle R-972 back in 2010.

Their technology is fantastic, but their units are out of the price range of so many of us. If they could once again partner with someone else to provide, say, 80% of the experience in a more affordable package, it could benefit both parties and consumers.

Also, would they consider contributing to one of AV NIRVANA's fantastic give away contests? ;)

Good presentation. I liked how he went over the different options: Auro 3d, Atmos, DTS:X
Only thing is with Auro 3d, the number of speakers (and cost associated) increase as well as updating the receiver! :)

Todd,

I was happy to hear about their customer support. Could you ask if that benefit transfers over to a new owner if one were to buy one used?

Absolutely love the product and technology, but that price. . .

Is this cutting edge or what?

When I saw the early reflections adjustment it reminded me that a common theme amongst some Dirac adopters is that it can make their speakers sound “dry”. I wonder …

it really begs the question: how much correction do you want to apply? Some folks do their best to limit correction to the lowest of frequencies.

I guess it’s a case-by-case basis?

Not taking the bait. I’ve already touched that 3rd rail of EQ!

The bass management features Chuck covered where also very interesting. In particular, the ability to route bass signal from a bass limited height speaker to both a bass capable speaker below it for those bass frequencies one might localize, and then the lowest bass frequencies to the subwoofer array.
Todd, IIRC you can do this with your Storm processor too, right? Is this something you’ve tried?

Yes, the Storm processor can do bass routing... and, no, I haven't implemented it (yet). Call it laziness... because that's exactly what it is!

Ok, I got confirmation. The warranty transfers, as does customer support.

First thought… that’s probably the most awesome customer service policy I’ve run across. What a fantastic company!

Second thought…. who would ever sell one? There’s nothing to upgrade to.

Yeah, that kind of customer service is largely unheard of...

The only scenario I see where selling would make sense, is if you're in financial distress? But, otherwise, I agree, selling would be crazy -- this is a one and done purchase!

Thanks for the follow-up, Todd.

That might open up an affordability option for some of us.

There's no denying that it's a huge investment. But, if it's anywhere near your wheelhouse, it's worth budgeting and saving for!

A couple of situations that might produce a used one:
  1. Upgrade! An Altitude 16 owner might want to jump up to the Altitude 32 and dump that old dinosaur for cheap. (A man can dream, can't he?)
  2. Sadly, we have seen cases of divorce and other depressing life events that prompt someone to give up their home theater dreams. There's nothing to celebrate in those cases, but they do and have happened
Neither is going to produce a lot of used units, but they are possible.

This would be my money-is-no-object processor, but there's just no way I could justify the cost.

I love my home theater, and my little HTP-1 does a fine job for its cost. Not in the league of a Trinnov, but my room has never sounded better.

Now, if I ever hit the lottery, or a reasonably price used one were to pop up. . .

After going through three high-end AVR/AVP units in about five years, the last somewhat a nightmare, I purchased a JBL Synthesis SDP-75 (Trinnov 32) 24-channel unit my dealer was able to get for me at a "good" (but still very expensive) price. Their support and upgrades should make this the last AVP I need to buy so a win in the long run for money spent and winner in the short, middle, and long run for performance and service.

We all should have got one of these first and saved a bundle. LOL

Does your support come from the dealer, Trinnov, or JBL?

that’s the key… finding a dealer with some wiggle room!
