Is it possible to connect the laptop to the TV and use ARC instead of direct receiver connection?

Hi,

All HDMI inputs on my receiver (Yamaha RX-V685) are on the backside and are very hard to reach for me, so I was wonder if I could connect my laptop with UMIK + REW to the TV and use ARC from the TV to the receiver instead? Is this supported or do I need to connect my laptop directly to the receivers HDMI inputs?

It should work (a quick ARC test with my TV and soundbar worked), but if you really mean ARC and not EARC, you'll be limited to 2 channels.

If using EARC, it will depend on what your TV and receiver support for multichannel LPCM over EARC.

Thanks. I'm using EARC. Will give it a try. To bad that Yamaha decided to skip the HDMI port on the front panel.
