(March 3, 2026) iFi audio's new NEO Stream 3 and ZEN Stream 3 are the latest installments in its high-resolution network audio streamers. Building on the success of the original models, these latest versions incorporate updated hardware, a revised software architecture, and expanded streaming capabilities aimed at both all-in-one users and dedicated DAC owners.
Both Stream 3 models are built around iFi’s next-generation ultra-resolution streaming engine, adding support for Qobuz Connect alongside Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay 2. The platform is designed to improve overall stability and usability, with refined web radio performance and deeper system customisation. IoT hardware has also been added to simplify setup and allow updates through a web-based interface or the iFi Nexis app.
The NEO Stream 3 and ZEN Stream 3 also share several core hardware improvements. Power supply circuitry has been revised with upgraded polymer capacitors and ELNA Silmic II capacitors, a change iFi says contributes to lower noise and smoother high frequency performance. Both units include iPurifier2 technology on SPDIF outputs and Active Noise Cancellation on the USB ports to help reduce digital noise when feeding an external DAC.
Where the two models diverge is in their intended role within a system.
The NEO Stream 3 is designed as a complete streaming solution, incorporating a DAC stage derived from the NEO iDSD 2. Built around a Burr Brown chipset, the internal conversion stage processes PCM and DSD through separate signal paths. The next-generation streaming engine supports up to 768kHz PCM and DSD512 over network playback, while the integrated DAC stage supports PCM up to 384kHz and DSD512. Digital outputs are complemented by built-in noise-reduction measures, and the unit also features the return of iFi’s OptiBox optical isolation system, which galvanically isolates the wired network input to reduce potential network-born interference.
The ZEN Stream 3 takes a more focused approach, serving as a dedicated streaming transport for users who already own a preferred DAC. It supports native PCM up to 384kHz and DSD256, delivering high-resolution network audio without adding an internal conversion stage. By concentrating purely on streaming functionality, the ZEN Stream 3 is positioned as an upgrade path for established digital systems that need modern connectivity without redundancy.
A major addition across both models is the integration of JVCKENWOOD’s K2 processing technology. In “K2” mode, harmonic content lost during encoding is restored while maintaining the file’s native resolution. On the NEO Stream 3, a "K2HD" mode can additionally upsample PCM content below 192kHz to 192kHz 24-bit. Previously limited to select iFi DACs, this processing can now be applied to any external DAC connected to either Stream 3 model.
Both devices allow access to local libraries stored on external drives or NAS systems, creating a network-based hub for hi-res playback across the home. Exclusive Modes return as well, disabling unused system processes during playback to reduce the incidence of unwanted noise while improving operating efficiency.
The NEO Stream 3 is available now at $999 through iFi and selected dealers. The ZEN Stream 3 is priced at $399 and is available directly from iFi.
