If you had a new 4K projector and AV Receiver what would be the first movie you would watch?

Ready Player One.

Excellent thread! The first 4K movie I ever watched was The Great Wall IIRC. Decent movie with wonderful visuals and colors that really pop.

My go to for evaluating display/pj performance is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. A very dark movie that will quickly show the good and bad of your setup very quickly.

for HDR and demo shiny colors Pacific Rim (the first one).... for jaw dropping changes from Blu-ray to 4K, Men in Black, or Air Force One

The Great Wall has great picture but the storyline was a bit of a drag.

Easy... Deepwater Horizon. Just my opinion, but I think it’s the best Atmos film out there.

Spectacular.

And I’ve been blabbing about this... but Superman The Movie in 4k has a totally reworked Atmos encode (the disc is 5.1 default) that really was a moment for me. Older movies usually sound thin and underwhelming. This Atmos track sounded like it was modern all the way. John Williams score sounds AMAZING and there’s a ton of Atmos activity.

Really impressive

If you thought Great Wall had a bad story, I'd skip Godzilla.

I watched it last night... thought the storyline was fine for a Godzilla movie. I went in expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. No doubt an excellent LFE movie. Alita was also a good LFE movie... with a much better storyline.

My problem with movies like Godzilla (which I haven't watched yet) is that I frequently get an hour in and realize I just wasted an hour of my life. Makes me gun shy!

It's a keeper for me... great 4K material and superb LFE. Lots of well-known stars in this movie too.

I'd agree that Alita had a much better storyline, but it doesn't take much to get a better storyline when you're looking up - no place else to go. Tonight I think I'll watch Dumbo and I'd bet just about anything that it will be the best movie I watched this weekend! :hide:

Sounds like I need to get it just to use a demo material for reviews?

mech it sounds like you need to watch Grumpy Old Men... :dumbcrazy:

I think the 3 of us could spar all day!

I am the grumpy old man! Is there a movie about me??

Do you find yourself yelling "Get off my lawn!!!" at random kids?? :olddude:

"I am the grumpy old man! Is there a movie about me??"
