I would like some clarification regarding the setting of channel volume levels in a Marantz 7703 Preamp.

It is my assumption that when I run Audyssey Setup, the preamp holds those channel volume levels and applies them every time I use any Audyssey setting on a given input. The only time those change is if I adjust them in Audyssey Setup, or through the Audyssey app, or rerun Audyssey Setup.
It is also my assumption that when I run Manual Setup, the channel volume levels I set there are also set in stone unless I change them in Manual Setup, or I rerun Manual Setup.
I also presume that changing Audyssey Setup volume levels with or without the app, doesn't change Manual Setup levels and changing Manual Setup levels doesn't change Audyssey Setup levels. When I change Audyssey setting to "OFF" the system reverts to Manual Setup volume levels.

I'm aware that I can change volume levels on the fly as an option for any of the inputs and those adjustments apply to only that input, no matter whether I'm using Audyssey or not, and those adjustments remain in effect until I reset them. Adjusting these has no effect on the Audyssey or Manual Setup volume levels retained in memory.

With those assumptions in mind it would seem that the ideal way to setup and insure the closest volume levels between channels in all cases, is to set all input option volume levels to Zero before performing the Manual Setup and Audyssey Setup.
If I'm over looking something, Please enlighten me.

Thanks,
Greg

Hey Greg, I'm having a bit of a hard time following along with your question.

Are you talking about setting channel levels for each specific channel in your system?

Sorry for the confusion Todd, and thanks for asking!

I was really just seeking confirmation that these Preamps operate the way I thought they did.
I thought one could set up Manual Setup mode one way(speaker distance, speaker volume, speaker config) and Audyssey another(speaker distance, speaker volume, speaker config) and neither mode would affect the other. I found out that is not the case. I setup Manual mode yesterday, then ran Audyssey setup mode and it changed everything in the manual mode to the Audyssey settings.

I've had Denon products forever(5600,5700,5800.5803). These receivers were great. They had capabilities to have two sets of front and surround speakers. one for movies and one for music. They had separate configuration setups and were switchable on the fly. Although the new systems(Marantz now) have better specs and amazing new movie sound, I've had a hard time letting go of those legacy features.

I in my seventies now and I guess I'm turning into a crotchety old man. Keeping up isn't as easy as it use to be. Thank you folks for your tolerance.
