Preamp, Processor or Receiver
none yet
I have watched videos and read articles on this subject. I understand that a received is an amplifier with a radio built in. Im not a radio listener, so I thought "well Ill just get an amplifier". But then I thought "where do I plug all my components in? Amps dont have hdmi inputs."

Here are the components Ill be installing:
  • Epson 5050UB projector
  • 2-Monolith THX 460T Towers
  • Monolith THX 365C Center
  • 2-Klipsch RP 502S side surrounds
  • 2-JBL N38II back surrounds (I already own these so I figure I might was well use them somewhere)
  • 4-Klipsch CDT 5800 C II Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers
  • 2-Monolith M15 subwoofers
Ive looked at the Marantz 8015 receiver and the Monolith 11 channel amp. Based on the components Ive chosen, which one should I get? If I get the amp, where do I plug in my roku, dvd player, etc.?

It looks like the Marantz SR8015 AV Receiver does it all... A multichannel (11.2 - your 11 speakers + 2 subs) processor, preamplifier and amplifier plus all that video management all rolled into one...

On the other hand, the Monolith 11 appears to be a straight forward 11 channel power amplifier... You would need a pre/pro to manage your AV inputs like roku and dvd... Something like the Marantz AV7706 or Monoprice HTP-1 + the Monolith 11...

ok I just learned about "separates"..............now I understand where to plug my accessories in. This is fun !!

And there are various ways to mix and match... For instance... The Marantz SR8015 AV Receiver and a 3 Channel Power Amp that powers your LeftRightCenter speakers leaving the surround mix on the Marantz and your power hungry LRC speakers on a separate Power Amplifier via pre-outs from the Marantz...

Have fun looking and learning about the various ways members of AV NIRVANA configure their various AV systems... I'm not sure if there are any two that are alike...

Just check the input sensitivity on any amp you get vs the output voltage for the pre-amp or AVR pre-amp outputs. You don't want the amps input sensitivity to be too much higher than the output voltage of the pre-amp.
For example the Marantz SR8015 has output voltage of 1.2V. The monolith amps have input sensitivity (input sensitivity is the voltage required to drive the amp to full power) of 1.6V. This combo will work. I'd stay away from amps that need 2V or above with this Marantz for example.

Wow, you're going to make some noise !!! An avr is a bit easier to wire and control (all in one box). And, if you decide to add amps later, you have the pre-outs to do so. Out of curiosity, movies or music and how big is your room ?

Also, I suggest that you consider an Anthem avr as well but, at that price level, you're likely into personal preferences.
