I can only imagine is based on the true story leading up the hit song by MercyMe of the same name.
The movie follows the life of lead singer Bart Millard and starts as he is a child growing up with is father who was abusive causing his mother to leave the relationship when he is only about 10 years old. Growing up he joins a band called MercyMe and the movie follows them as they struggle to break out of just doing small gigs across the US and dealing with the rocky relationship Bart has with his father and friends.
I can only imagine became one of several huge hits the band produced going all the way to #1 on the christian charts and all the way to #5 on Billboards top 40 mainstream chart. With 200 million copies sold it is the best selling christian song ever. The song was literally written in about 10min late at night on the bands tour bus with no edits done to the lyrics after that.
I highly recommend watching this movie as it is quite well done on many levels. On opening weekend the movie went to number 3 in the box office sales so it did well in theaters as well.
