For various reasons, I need to analyze a sound in a room. The sound is not a frequency sweep, rather it is an intrusive sound into my theater. I need to analyze it to see what frequencies are dominant in the sound to begin to find solutions to dampen and eliminate it. Trouble is, I do not know how to do this REW, as I've only ever used REW for frequency sweeps.

How do I use REW to analyze a non-frequency sweep sound in my theater? That is, a sound that is not generated by the REW program but is external to it? Much appreciated for the help.

You can use the RTA feature for this. Looking at noise floors should be in the Help Files.

Using REW probably isn't the easiest way. But I have only just started using it TBH

2 Other Ways :

- Download the Spectroid App on your phone and just walk around the room using your phone as a Mic - this is a really good spectrum analyser app - if there is a dominant frequency above room/ambient noise it will show up.
- Just buy any microphone and download the Ableton demo, feed the audio input from your microphone into Ableton you can use the "eq8" (with spectrum on) in Ableton to locate the frequency. You can also use the eq to islate the sound
