I'm unable to figure out how to playback a sweep in one computer and record on another computer. I would appreciate your help!

I have a playback PC sitting in another room running Roon outputting into HQPlayer in the same computer. On HQPlayer I run convolution filters derived with Acourate for a stereo 4-way active output to a NAA (network attached player) thru LAN. The NAA is in the living-room, connected thru USB to a Lynx Hilo that does the DAC and drives the amps.

I want to play at the playback PC a sweep generated in REW and measure in the living-room with a laptop connected to a mic.

On REW>Tools>Generator, I generated a sweep from 15Hz to 23kHz, length 2M, add timing ref, one sweep for L, one for R, one for L+R, and saved the 3 to files, and copied the files onto the playback PC. If I play them I hear the sweep.

I run into trouble at the measurement laptop. On the laptop, on REW I go into Measure, set the same frequency range as the sweep, same length (2M), select use acoustic timing reference. When I get to the playback section I start guessing. I set it to playback "from file", but is requesting a file to be played...I think I want to get the measurement started on the laptop and for REW to wait for the timing reference through the playback chain so REW knows it should start recording the sweep.

Thank you in advance!

You must have a copy of the same playback file on the measuring computer too. On the measurement screen choose to Playback from File. Load the file and then press Start (still on the measuring computer). The measuring process will pause and wait for the file to play on the playback system. Start the file on the playback system. Measuring begins when the acoustic timing reference is detected from the playback system.

Thank you!! I was missing that key step.
I'm afraid I won't get to try it today, but hoping tomorrow I will be able to do so. Will revert ASAP!

Thanks again!

Note that if you use the same sweep settings for several files you only need to load one of them into REW. The file is only used to determine the sweep settings.

I was able to try it today and it worked flawlessly. Big thank you!

And I confirmed what I suspected: the system response is far from as even as it was supposed to be after all corrections, so this opens a can of worms for me. Part of this hobby/curse!

Big thank you again!!
