How long will it be until...

True, but when have ever seen a single person on a home PC create something on this level? This would normally take a team of people to complete, and more than a month.
It’ll get even crazier when there’s AGI and AIs get the idea for and make the movie. 2030?

I guess that would depend on who that person is and what tools the have available... In 1995 I had a friend that worked at Digital Domain... And he had a Lisp Workstation for a PC at home... And the beginnings of the tools that made Avatar... Heck, I built my first home computer in 1977, an S-100 bus based intel 8080... In the 1980s Lisp and Smalltalk systems had lots of graphics horsepower... Remember The Last Starfighter, Tron and StarWars?
Yes, computers have been used in movies for a long time, and early Babylon 5 work was even done on a computer.

The difference is labor, time, and cost. Rendering those special effects took a long time and special skills. That barrier has practically disappeared. You don't need to know how to code and the computational crunching is done though data centers. AI can take care of all the physics, lighting, and movement.

Story will still be the key element, but to the OP's original question I'm guessing it will be within three to five years that you'll be able to get something close to a movie generated out of book. Assuming IP copyright laws don't play a hindering role in this.
