Hello,
I have a decent grasp on how REW works. I have an Onkyo 805 AVR, how does it work with making adjustments, once I take measurements? I want to buy the UMIK-1 and tune the system, but I only want to purchase if the measurements and adjustments made with REW will be accpeted by my receiver. Please advise, and thank you for your assistance in advance.

Sincerely,
Dan Maldonado

Not likely it will. Most AVRs have some kind of autoEQ (e.g., Audyssey) and, sometimes, a primitive graphic EQ ("7-band EQ on 7 channels, 5-band EQ on subwoofer ") which is quite inadequate for much except as a tone control. There is no way to insert any filter/corrections from REW without adding more hardware to your system.

Kal,
The 805 has some eq adjustments are: it comes with audessy xt32: 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1000Hz, 2500Hz, 6300Hz, 16000Hz for speakers, and 25 Hz, 40 Hz, 63 Hz, 100 Hz, or 160 Hz for subwoofers. Not enough for me to use REW, right?

Sincerely,
Dan

Kal,
Ok. I think I am going to pass for now. I am getting a Denon x8500h eventually, and want to be able make sure the audeyssey is doing a good job of customizing my sound.

Sincerely,
Dan

The 7 band EQ for your mains and a 5 band EQ for your subs, built into your AVR, seems like enough to get a handle on your speakers... REW is about "seeing the room"... It is also nice that it can generate EQ filters... Between the SPL and EQ settings in your AVR and being able to see what your system is doing in your room with REW, I would get that UMIK-1...

Were you thinking of ever using your computer to input music to your AVR with something like Audirvana and Tidal or Qobuz? It is possible to also insert EQ that way... Most modern laptops and desk sides have an HDMI out... ;^)

Dude,
I am only using the Blu-ray player, tcl and a Bluetooth box to put audio through. I have no plans to used the computer for audio. That does put me on the fence about getting the umik and tuning the system further. Thanks for the input.

Sincerely,
Dan

Sorry I was not thinking of running audio through the computer, the hdmi on the 805 is non functioning. I am happy with the sound overall just curious wanting to tweak the sound with REW, if it was feasible with my present setup.

Well, it is called "Room EQ Wizard", not "Receiver EQ Wizard", after all...

I have an inexpensive Denon AC740H and cheap Polk speakers, and REW has been very helpful for arranging the room and speaker locations, especially the subwoofer. (Also for confirming that the Polk surrounds aren't much good). Luckily, my setup was pretty easy to get working pretty well. I haven't actually done much on the receiver other than set up Audyssey.

I'm using a Dayton iMM-6 microphone, which at $20 is a lot cheaper, though it needs an extension cable and is less versatile than the UMIK-1, and more trouble to set up. But it *does* work for the basics.
