Home theater after cataract surgery...

Before I had cataract surgery, thought my 86" LG 8620 TV with 15000 hours on it was getting dim, and was ready to replace it. I had my cataract surgery and it looked more vibrant than I can ever recall and that is in Cinema or Home Cinema mode (the brighter settings are way too bright for me now). Recently we have went to the local Theater and the picture is so dim, but my wife thought the picture was bright enough. The doctor told me that you lose contrast, and I have noticed in bright lighting in store everything is crystal clear. At home I usually close the curtain a bit (no change from before as I have always liked it this way to reduce glare), and at night we have the room lit up a bit, but not bright.
I was considering getting a laser ultra short throw when it comes time to replace the LG, but after going to the theater...I am not sure.

Anyone else that has had cataracts and had the surgeries had the same experiences? What do you do for large screen viewing? Are home laser projectors better than commercial theaters for people after cataract surgery?

I can't say my cataract surgery improved what I was seeing. It was more of a by-product since I was having stints placed in my eyes for high pressure. Doc thought some haze in my right eye was due to cataracts, but it was actually optic nerve damage and nothing can be done about it. Now, I have to wear glasses to read rather than to see at a distance. It just reversed my eyesight from nearsighted to farsighted.

I also have nerve damage, but in my case the nerve damage causes my eyes to not sync anymore. My doctor told me (in Mexico) to focus on something, and then rotate both eyes in the same direction in circles...do it about 10 times in each direction, and it does help. Usually my eye drifting out of alignment is when I am tired, so I do it when ever it drifts out.

Wow, I bet that was a shock to see your tv that good, well done on your cataract, the future is bright now

My cataract surgery made my whole world a brighter place to live. I currently sit about 14 feet from a 100” Hisense U8 flatscreen and I can tell you that on some bright scenes I have to shirk my eyes from the screen. Not sure if that’s my eyes or the HDR effect but it is glorious all the same.

Great to hear...next might be a laser ultra short projector.
