____________________________________

please let me explain why , last month my receiver's hdmi input & output stopped correctly passing video but still handles audio

so i got a HDMI 2.1 Audio Extractor/Converter adapter for a go between my apple box,tv, & receiver

but iv struggled to find a good one that does my needs right my gear is

Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) 128 GB Ethernet ver

tv - TCL 55-inch 6-Series 4K UHD Dolby Vision HDR QLED Roku Smart TV - 55R635

receiver - outlaw 4k 976

heres more info an context my first two attempts were a

OREI 8K HDMI Splitter 1 X 2, Duplicate with Audio Extractor

&

CORSAHD 4K@60Hz HDMI Audio Extractor & Converter , i should have googled on wither or not either could take apple tv's Dolby Vision & 5.1 LPCM in & correctly output Dolby Vision to the tv & 5.1 LPCM to my receiver ?

as neither did without growing issues.

lets start with the orei

after a lot of trail an error with the edid settings

1749314745001.png

i settled on mode 001 which gave the correct audio & video pass-threw & extract without messing with the Dolby vision colors when that content was played well for a while

now let my explain why i dont just use the copy mode because i did , the straight-up edid copy 111 worked but after a few hours on avg 4 to 6hrs with any app the audio

vi both hdmi port 2 & optical would just cut out regardless of the restarting the apple tv , receiver , or tv an wither i used the apples tv's any of the output modes

wither it be default lpcm or forced ac3 5.1 or 2.0 options , so i went with 001 which till now was fine but now the audio stays but the video cuts out after

about 8 to 10hs of use an strangely sooner when play anything from the disney+ app both issues for mode 111 & 001 are fixed by unplugging & re-plugging the orei

i have not used any of the other mode long term as all seemed to give the right audio in & out but would mess with frame , res , & color space format , they just generally f'ed the image.

now to the

the CORSAHD 4K@60Hz HDMI Audio Extractor & Converter
____________________________________________________

the edid setting that correctly passing Dolby vision , frame rate , res & color space (4.4.4.) does not correctly pass 5.1 lpcm or

5.1 ac3 as the center ch feed for lpcm is missing an for any 5.1ac3 track from any app or even if i set ac3 5.1 forced as default the center ch feed comes out the left ch

as the 5.1 alignment is off , i haven't tried forcing 2.0 ac3 as this has been a mass headache , right now im just using the mode the passes hdr an that works fine & with forced 2.0ac3

but the 5.1 center issues remain if i don't force 2.0ac3

so in need help finding a 4K@60Hz dolby vision/hdr & HDMI Audio Extractor & Converter under 100$ that has a EDID settings that supports & allow

5.1 LPCM & 5.1 ac3 in from the Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) & to optical an or hdmi and simultaneously can correctly pass dolby vision/hdr at 60hz at 4.4.4

can someone help me with this ?

iv thought about trying the next tier up with the CORSAHD brand with the CO-HAE118 version as the current one iv been using has been

going 2 weeks straight 24/7 with no image cutout unlike the orei so ill give CORSAHD another shot , any according to the amazon ask question option it claims the it can

allow 5.1 LPCM & 5.1 ac3 in from the Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) & to optical an or hdmi and simultaneously can correctly pass dolby vision/hdr at 60hz at 4.4.4

as were it wasn't sure that the ver i have could which i now can confirm it cant (fyi why didnt i try the next one up well i didnt see that item the first time i looked)

so

2 questions

1. can someone confirm if the CO-HAE118 version can correctly allow 5.1 LPCM & 5.1 ac3 in from the Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) & to optical an or hdmi and simultaneously can correctly pass 4k dolby vision/hdr at 60hz at 4.4.4 ?

2. if the CO-HAE118 version cant , can someone suggest on one from a different brand that is confirmed to by able to

I tried a few extractors a few years ago, one being a professional-grade unit from Crestrom. Apparently they will only deliver 5.1 via the optical output. Give that a try if you haven't already.

thanks for that grim info on my chances of getting a good one that works

^ this will get'r done! Click on that, and you can watch the review.

*edit* I see you're hoping to score something for under $100. The AVPro 2x12 is $300. But, I think it's going to do exactly what you need!

Is there a way you can use two HDMI outputs simultaneously, one for audio, the other for video? Or alternately use a second amp for the audio portion?
I needed to use the last route to allow a feed to a chair shaker while using headphones since the sub feed cut out as soon as I plugged headphones into the jack at the amp.
I split the HDMI to feed the TV with the video signal and fed a second amp with the audio portion. I summed the left and right channel and ran those through an old rca equalizer to trim off the high frequencies before going through the second amp and to the shaker.
This allowed me to use the speakers when the headphones were unplugged while retaining the feed to the shaker.
The audio portion was only stereo (then Mono) but a variation on that might be possible to get the audio feed you want.
I know it's possibly not a great choice, but Amazon will let you return anything that doesn't work according to claims within 30 days with no problem. It may take awhile to find the right extractor, but at least you won't have to loose any money on one that doesn't "fit the bill".I think I went through about 4 of them until I found one that worked for my purposes. Unfortunately I'm not where that setup is to see which one I ended up keeping.

I manufacture the Essence Evolve II-4K HDMI v2.0b DAC for 4K sources and TVs, 5.1 channel output of LPCM soundtracks with Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ pass through. It includes software called EDID Commander so you can customize it to your needs. Its included in the Stereophile Recommended Components List since 2020 because it sounds so good. It sells for $349 but it features all the best parts for superb performance and reliability.

can you tell if with or without using the EDID Commander to customize it , on whether or not it would correctly pull the audio of any of the apple tv+ gen3's audio output modes
an pump it to the 7.1 ports to go to my outlaw audio 976 receiver ?

as it seems the units iv had dont correctly pull the audio in any of the apple tv+ gen3's audio output modes whether it be the default multi ch lpcm or either
forced ac3 5.1 or 2.0 right an i dont know if its anything to do with how the apple tv+ gen3 handles the audio per app an that thers no as of yet audio pass-though
like the nvidia shield.

but before my outlaw hdmi board got buggy i had the apple tv+ gen3 pull just into it an weirdly just for the disney+ & hbo max app had to set the audio out to forced ac3 2.0
because forced ac3 5.1 for the hbo max would be missing the center ch & for the disney+ would be coming from the left ch
so i usually just switched between default & forced ac3 2.0 for daily use

but now iv had to try these adapter units to get pic an sound

tried an failed , failed , some what an for now

both of these were tried an failed & would not correctly pull the audio in any mode without either losing the video or audio feed after a while were
either one or the other would cutout depending on the edid setting an the unit would need a reboot

OREI 8K HDMI Splitter 1 X 2, Duplicate with Audio Extractor

the 4K@120Hz HDMI 2.1 Audio Extractor Audio Converter
this one worked the best the longest but never correctly pass-though the dolby vision without messing the audio like the first two

this im currently using J-Tech Digital HDMI Splitter 1 in 2 Out 4K 60Hz an so far the dolby vision goes threw fine with audio like it did when the apple tv+ was plugged
directly to the outlaw with the og stated audio quarks but with a 30sec blackout in audio an video when ever the apple tv switches frame & color mode per content

an so fas aside from that annoyance the outlaws hdmi hasn't gone out again yet
(was an is short out after mild daily use without long unplug an power down - the hdmi issue is the only one with the outlaw)

so can it be confirmed the Essence-Evolve-II-4K will correctly pull the audio regardless of the apple tv+ gen3's audio output mode either
default multi ch lpcm or either forced ac3 5.1 or 2.0 without per app weirdness an not lose the video & or audio output from
the apple tv+ gen3 even during frame & content switching ?
