(October 22, 2025) HDR10+ Technologies LLC has been selected to administer a new certification program for Eclipsa Audio, an immersive sound platform based on the IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Format) open-source specifications created by the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia). The move unites two key areas of innovation, open technology and immersive entertainment, under one framework designed to ensure consistent, high-quality audio performance across a new generation of devices.
The Eclipsa Audio certification program is intended to standardize how immersive sound is implemented on televisions and other compatible hardware. It provides a structured way for manufacturers to meet AOMedia’s technical benchmarks, ensuring that spatial audio is reproduced accurately across devices. IAMF itself encompasses a suite of specifications developed to enhance multi-dimensional sound for music, gaming, augmented and virtual reality, and broadcast media. It allows playback to adapt dynamically to the listening environment, whether through headphones, soundbars, or full surround systems.
Unlike proprietary formats, IAMF is royalty-free, codec agnostic, and open to all developers. Its reference decoder, test streams, and supporting documentation are freely available through AOMedia’s GitHub repository, enabling both creators and engineers to experiment, test, and refine immersive playback environments. This open model encourages collaboration and transparency while reducing barriers to adoption for both large and small manufacturers.
According to Matt Frost, Chairman of AOMedia’s Steering Committee, the collaboration with HDR10+ Technologies is a logical next step. “Digital experiences today are powered by platforms and services that are generally available from their developers, via open-source browsers, operating systems, social networks, and video conferencing,” said Frost. “Immersive audio should be no exception, but realizing this requires robust device testing and maximum compliance. Given its expertise in this area, HDR10+ Technologies LLC has been designated to administer the Eclipsa Audio program.”
HDR10+ Technologies, best known for its dynamic metadata HDR video standard, brings a deep track record in certification and compliance, with more than 170 industry adopters and multiple testing facilities worldwide. As consumers continue to invest in high-end televisions and home entertainment systems, the company sees Eclipsa Audio as a way to unify picture and sound under a shared standard.
“For years, HDR10+ has been at the forefront of video innovation, offering a spectacular viewing experience,” said Bill Mandel, co-manager of HDR10+ Technologies LLC. “With Eclipsa Audio, we can now complete the picture by connecting sight and sound in a unified manner that achieves total immersive entertainment, just as the creator intended.”
The new certification program will initially focus on televisions, with expansion into other device categories expected soon. The royalty-free licensing model and technical specifications are available immediately to partners, and the first Eclipsa Audio–certified products are anticipated to launch in the near future.
