Trying to use REW with a Denon AVR, I way stymied because the HDMI from Mac to AVR was extremely unstable, rendering my efforts futile. I could run the HDMI to my TV and it would work fine except that I only had access to the L&R audio channels this way and I wanted access to the center, sub and surrounds as well. After much discussion with Apple help, it was revealed that Macs, and probably MS Windows too, will not accept the HDCP credentials from an AV receiver in order to avoid unauthorized copying. Rather than try a toslink connection, I persisted and found out that some cheap HDMI splitters strip HDCP from the video link. I got one from Amazon for $15 and it did the trick. Now I have full comms between the Mac and the AVR with access to all of the audio channels. Problem solved. I hope that this little explanation will help others having difficulty get Macs to play well with their AVR.

Oh wow. What an interesting work around. Funny thing, I know that HDCP is stripped by some of those devices, but I don't think I would have connected the dots like you did.

Well done!
