Oh my and sorry for the delay in responding. It’s been a flurry of things happening on my end. Shortly after moving into our new home our Weber Genesis caught on fire and unfortunately was unsalvageable. We also upgraded to a Napoleon w/ the ceramic infrared burner and it has been fantastic! I’ll have to see if I have pictures.Time to revive this thread @JBrax!
So, here's a story I haven't talked about on the forum... Last November, my Weber Genesis grill blew up.
Not joking.
No idea what happened, but I preheat the grill for a steak. Tossed the steak on. Left my deck for about 5 minutes. And in that time, there was some sort of catastrophic explosion that ripped a hole in its side. The grill lid was shut, but the body of grill was engulfed in flames. We're talking every crack and seam on the grill - front, back, sides - FLAMES.
So, I ran out onto the deck. Quickly realized I wasn't touching it and started running through options in my head. Garden hose? pots of water? Fire Department?
Then I remembered a fire blanket I'd given my wife the year before. Grabbed that, shielded myself to cut off the propane, then used it to lift the handle (which was scorching hot) and revealed what was a seriously crazy fire. Flames were a couple of feet tall.
Then I tossed the fire blanket over the grill and eventually the fire smothered.
I am so thankful I arrived on the scene when I did. I think I was minutes away from having a serious house fire.
The heat from the fire did some damage to our new, post-renovation, deck rail. Its wood covered in some sort of coating that melted and bubbled... I actually think if it had been straight wood, it would have ignited. It was that hot.
You can see the damage the fire did to the metal internals of the Weber:

And, here you can see the hole...

Here's the fire blanket, which was amazing (everyone should have one of these on hand):

And here's what was left of a 17oz steak:

It's taken me some time to get this incident out of my head... we're talking about a complete and utter equipment failure, and a seriously scary fire. I've my fair share of little flare ups, etc, over the years. This was not that. This was.
I've continued using my Traeger smoker, which isn't on our deck... love that thing. But, recently made a new purchase. Another grill... but not a grill... I decided to go with a FlatRock.

Excited to start learning how to use it. With all of the disgusting, yellow spring pollen coating every surface know to woman, man, and child... I've been avoiding the outdoors. But, it's looking like the yellow has exited stage left. Time to start spending some time outdoors!
