Long time Home Theater enthusiasts. How long you ask? Long enough to remember when you had to buy a separate surround module to add surround sound. You had to add it to your two channel amp because multi channel amps were still a gleam in someone eye. My first add on was an Onkyo. Don’t remember the model number!

Welcome to AV NIRVANA

I remember those days... my wife came home and saw two speakers on each side of the couch, and a couple of speaker high up in each front corner... "And just what are all these speakers doing in here." I had just hooked up a Yamaha DSP-100u and they actually had a 4-channel amp for this reason. That was about 1990 or so... give or take.

@G Scott, I hope you have some pics of your old setups! ;-)

Welcome!

Unfortunately, I do not.

Welcome to the forums, G Scott! When you mention modules being needed for surround, is it like you would add in cards into the pre-amp/amp and it will activate the surround function? And the number of cards determines how many channels you can use? This is interesting! Thanks : )

Thank you all for the welcome!
Actually, it was an additional surround processor to add a center and two back surround speakers to a two channel amp.
I believe the model number was Onkyo ES600PR0 or something like that!

And it was the late 80's early 90's!

Welcome to AV NIRVANA G. Scott! Good to have you here!

Ah, another MO boy (I was born there, as was my wife).

As for quadraphonic, this was my first component -- a long way from my current Trinnov!
