I recently changed my (5) floorstanding speakers to Goldenear Triton One.R and Goldenear Center Reference and when I tried to run Audyssey XT32 with the embedded version in my Marantz Processor as well as the Audyssey MultEQ editor app neither would work with the GoldenEar speakers. Prior to changing to the GoldenEar speakers both the embedded version and the editor app worked fine. I am thinking the Audyssey is getting confused because the GoldenEar Triton One.R have built in subs which may be causing the issue.

I am running a LFE output to the front L&R speakers and also have dual SVS SB16's in the system. I tried disconnecting the LFE going to the front L&R speakers and just running the (2) SVS subs but Audyssey still would not work. Audyssey will get stuck in 1st position or it will just give error message and stops.

My current Marantz Processor has dual subwoofer outputs but the Marantz AV10 has (4) independant subwoofer outputs. I wonder if the Marantz AV10 with (4) subwoofer outputs would be a better fit with Audyssey and my GoldenEar Speakers?

Perhaps others out there have had similar compatibility problems with GoldenEar and Audyssey and I would welcome some feedback.

Thank you

What exactly to you mean by “it didn’t work?” You didn’t like the results? Or something else? I ask because, to me “didn’t work” would mean the end result was the same as if you hadn’t run it at all.

Wayne

Thanks for your prompt reply. As I stated in my post Audyssey would either get stuck in Position number 1 instead of advancing to position number 2 through 8 or it would not even run position 1 but would just give error message saying Audyssey has stopped. The only thing that changed in my setup was the GoldenEar Speakers. The (4) ceiling height speakers and the dual SVS subs were in play with my original setup which had no problems getting Audyssey to perform its room correction. Both the embedded Audyssey XT32 and the Audyssey Editor App would not play nice with my GoldenEar Speakers.

I think it unlikely the problem is the room correction/speaker combination.
You may be able to test your theory by plugging in a different speaker into the left main output of the AVR since this is where the software hangs, if I understood correctly.

Ah. I see what's going on here. I think it's going to get confused by trying to run line outs to the sub section of the One.Rs. You should only run speaker wire to those speakers, and let the internal crossover/active bass section of those speakers handle the rest. There is a way to have a processor handle crossover duties for a speaker like that, but I don't AVR 10 can do it... might be wrong... but you'd have to go through special setup procedures.

Since you have SB16s, I'd set your speakers to small and run the crossover down around 60Hz (for the towers) and 80Hz for the center channel. Only run speaker wire to your speakers (no need to run separate lines to the bass sections. Alternatively, I'd run a second two-channel setup where only the front two speakers are being used, set to Large, no subs.

Just to confirm: you plugged in the power cables to the One.Rs, correct? Also, you should have each speaker's gain knob (on the back of the speaker) at about the 12 o'clock position for calibration.

Great choice on speakers, by the way, I also run SVS SB16s and Triton One.Rs... they are KILLER speakers and play great together!

I have reset my Marantz processor to factory defaults to start over from ground zero. I have removed the LFE output to my L&R front Triton One.R and only output LFE to SVS SB16's.
I am running the SVS subs wirelessly to the rear of my theater room which is the same setup I had previously with my old speakers and Audyssey had worked properly.

Now when I try and run Audyssey XT32 it does not perform subwoofer level matching correctly. When you run Audyssey the first thing it does is to check the volume level of each sub and it asks you to adjust the volume level of each sub until it reaches 75db on the meter shown on OSD. Audyssey says my sub volume levels are too low but when I raise the volume on my subs there is no change to the meter shown on my screen no matter how high I raise the volume on subs. If I continue running audyssey it recognizes all of my other speakers correctly but shows my subs as none.

Audyssey will output test tones to all of the speakers and finishes the cycle on the 1st microphone position but instead of advancing to 2nd microphone position it stops and gives error message.
When Audyssey is properly calibrating your system it moves through the (8) microphone positions and then sends the data to your processor.

I am very pleased with the GoldenEar Triton One.R's but did not expect a problem running Audyssey with them. Hopefully a correction will be found or I will just have to turn off Audyssey and run without it.

Thank you for your help.

Hmm.

This might be a dumb question, but when you raise the gain on your subs, there is sound coming out of them, correct?

Yes there is. Not a dumb question at all. There is sound at the beginning of the level matching process and the sound gets louder as I raise the volume on subs but it has no effect on the Audyssey OSD meter which reads 45db no matter how much I raise the subs volume.

And it's telling you to physically increase output by attenuating gain directly on the sub.

Do you have the subs connected to both sub outs (one on each)?

Yes it is telling me to raise volume on sub if it has a volume adjust on it which it does. My Marantz processor has dual sub outs and I am using both of them for sub #1 and sub #2.
I am using the unbalanced sub outs to feed the SVS subs. There are also dual XLR sub outs that are not being used now.

That’s interesting news about the subs. That, coupled with it not proceeding after outputting tones to the first speaker has me wondering…. Do you have another mic you can try? If not, can you plug the mic into a laptop or something to see if it’s working?

I am using the microphone that came with processor and it worked fine with my old speakers. FYI the audyssey tones don't stop at the first speaker. They run through all the speakers but stop after completing the first mic position and show error message instead of advancing to mic two position.

I don't have another microphone but I do have a tablet and a laptop. How would I be able to test the mic using my laptop?

Thank you

Thinking you might have a mic input and can find some program to record sound. For that matter, the widows device manager can tell you if it’s picking up sound.

It’s a shame the error message isn’t more specific.

I think J Stewart might have this one correct… it’s gotta be the microphone.

It’s not picking up sub levels… then runs through test tones and errors because it doesn’t have information to log. The info is missing because it’s not receiving input.

I don’t think this has anything to do with the speakers.

You should be able to plug the microphone into your laptop… the mic has a mini stereo jack… and your laptop should have a mini stereo port.

What kind of computer is it?

I apologize. I said device manager which is this...

IMG_0479.jpeg

but what I shou have said is sound settings or sound control panel like in one of these two areas where you can talk or tap on the mic and see it register.

2023-05-12.jpg

It's not unusual for a device like that mic to have broken connection that will sometimes make contact.

If not the mic, and it were me, I would do a factory reset of the avr and when that didn't work reach out to Marantz customer service for support.

Yes, definitely try to record something with it. Just because the device is recognized, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s functionally operating

Thank you for getting me on the right sheet of music (smile) regarding mic test on laptop. Here was my result see attachment. It does look like the mic is recording. I have also contacted Audyssey support and will await their response.

If I may ask, have you tried level checking the subs individually? There is a guide from “simple home cinema” that actually guides you through the quirks of Audyssey with subs (along with a plethora of other stuff).
Also, which model from Marantz is your processor? As I have understood using both my 5014 and Cinema 50, Audyssey is sensitive to preseting the speaker layout.
As for testing the mic, try measuring a sub with REW using the Audyssey mic connected to your computer and post the spectrum analysis. That should exclude or confirm the mic.

I have heard back from Audyssey support. They say using a laptop to test the mic will not give accurate results because it doesn't have the right preamp for that mic.
They say the problem is either with the mic or the Marantz processor. They have sent me a link to buy another mic from them on Amazon with a 30 day return.

I will report back to you after trying their mic. Stay tuned (smile)

Todd you and J Stewart nailed it.

I got the new mic from Audyssey and was able to run a complete XT32 calibration on Marantz AV8805A without any issues. I was able to level match both SVS SB16 subs and calibrate my (5) GoldenEar floorstanding speakers along with my (4) ceiling Atmos speakers.

Although I had assumed the problem was the GoldenEar Triton One.R's having built in subs causing a compatibility issue with Audyssey that was not the case. About 6 months prior to getting the GoldenEar speakers I had run a touch up calibration with XT32 and the MultEQ app and all worked well so when I got these new GoldenEar speakers and they would not play nice together I had no idea it was a mic that had gone bad. I am extremely grateful for both of you guiding me toward the solution.

There was one more hoop that I had to jump thorough and that was with the Audyssey MultEQ app. After using the new mic to successfully calibrate my system using XT32 I wanted to run the MultEQ app so I could make some tweaks that are only available using the app.

I had the MultEQ installed on a older Sony tablet and when I tried to run the app it would crash or get stuck on mic position 1. After a couple of re-try's and uninstalling and reinstalling the MultEQ app with no improvement I decided to install the MultEQ app on a newer tablet that I had. With the MultEQ app on this newer tablet I ran the app without any hiccups. Now I was able to make the additional corrections that I wanted to and send the adjusted calibration file to my Marantz processor.

I am now "Golden" and its movie time.
