A higher frequency take on quadratic diffusion
The Q11D Diffuser is based on an 11-root well sequence, a design choice that shifts its primary diffusion range higher into the midrange compared to the Q7D. According to GIK Acoustics, this makes the Q11D particularly well suited for applications where maintaining energy and decay in the mid and high frequencies is critical, while still controlling reflections and flutter echo.
Physically, the Q11D is slightly wider than the Q7D and uses narrower wells. This dimensional change is intentional, allowing the two diffusers to be used together in mixed arrays for broader and more even coverage across a wall surface. Both models are designed to integrate visually and acoustically, giving system designers more flexibility when tailoring diffusion to a specific room.
The diffuser is available in a full-size format as well as a Demi version, which is a half-height model intended for rooms with lower ceilings or for use in more complex scattering designs.
“Quadratic diffusers are the gold standard when it comes to predictable, consistent one-dimensional diffusion,” said Mike Major, Acoustic Designer at GIK Acoustics. “These are the right device when you need to maintain as much mid and high frequency decay in a space, while still providing control over reflections and flutter. The Q11D is a higher-frequency diffuser than the Q7D, with more complexity due to the higher number of wells. It has scattering effects down to 570Hz, with even diffusion up to 3900Hz. This type of quadratic diffusion excels in large spaces, live rooms, and auditoria where a smooth, even midrange decay time is desired.”
Placement and applications
GIK recommends the Q11D for a variety of studio and listening environments, including rear wall diffusion in mix, mastering, or dedicated listening rooms. It can also be placed behind dipole or open baffle speakers, across front walls or rear side walls in two-channel or surround systems, and in live rooms used for percussion and acoustic instrument tracking.
For installations with limited vertical space, the Demi version of the Q11D provides the same diffusion characteristics in a shorter form factor. GIK also notes that the Demi model can be used in interleaved layouts to create more complex two-dimensional scattering patterns.
Specifications and pricing
The Q11D Diffuser uses an 11-root sequence and measures 23.6" x 45.7" x 6.3", with the Demi version measuring 23.6" x 22.8" x 6.3". Weight is listed at 68.3 lbs for the standard model and 34.2 lbs for the Demi. Both versions feature CNC-cut wood laminate construction and are offered in Beech, Walnut, Black, and White finishes.
US pricing is set at $399 for the Demi and $449 for the standard Q11D. For more information, click here.
