(January 10, 2024) Focal, heralded for its past loudspeaker endeavors, has introduced the Aria Evo X line at CES 2024. This new range follows in the footsteps of the Aria 900 series, offering an enhanced listening experience for both music and home cinema enthusiasts. Among its offerings, the Evo X collection includes a compact bookshelf model (Evo X N°1), three sleek floorstanding speakers (Evo X N°2, N°3, and N°4), and a horizontal center channel (Evo X Center).
The innovation in this series lies in its technology, where we find an ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter, a successor to the TNF tweeter. By design, the tweeter promises to reproduce treble more faithfully, digging further into the high and low ends of the spectrum, including up to 30kHz which resides well above human hearing capabilities. We also find changes to the midrange surround, which is equipped with TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) technology. This tech is aimed squarely at stabilizing the surround's movement, reducing distortion, and delivering balanced dynamics.
On the woofer front, a revamped magnet is billed as providing more impactful bass. Focal’s engineers have also reworked the speakers' crossovers with better components to improve loudspeaker balance.
A key feature of the Aria Evo X line is the iconic flax cone, used in the midrange and bass speaker drivers. This cone, made from French flax fiber, is known for producing a natural sound, free of coloration, and offering rich midrange reproduction and clear bass strokes. Flax cone technology has been a hallmark of Focal products since its introduction in the Aria 900 line in 2013.
