(September 16, 2020) Epson has unveiled yet another consumer-friendly product line, this time targeting households looking for large-screen performance with minimal hassle and a space-saving design. The first in its Epiq-Vision Ultra lineup is the LS500 4K PRO-UHD Laser Projection TV, and it's available now.

The bones of the LS500 are solid, offering owners ultra-short-throw 4K e-shift performance using 3-chip 3LCD technology and a laser array capable of achieving 4,000 lumens. Thanks to an included ambient light-rejecting screen (100" and 120"), the LS500 can be used in both dark and brightly-lit rooms.

The projector's native High Dynamic Range capabilities deliver 10-bit HDR processing, keeping incoming 4K HDR source information completely intact while properly displaying HDR10 content. Black levels are boosted by a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and laser technology that pulses light output, suppressing stray light. On the color front, the LS500 can display some 1.4-billion colors for complete coverage of the Rec.709 color space.

Image processing is performed by a real-time 12-bit analog to digital processor that's designed to eliminate common hiccups and annoyances such as banding and compression artifacts. And while the inclusion of HDMI 2.0 inputs isn't exactly cutting-edge, they do accommodate all current 4K video requirements while also providing Audio Return Channel (ARC) performance.

"More than ever, people want great experiences at home. And having a 120-inch 4K PRO-UHD4 screen on your wall – is the ultimate TV viewing experience," said Rodrigo Catalan, senior product manager, projectors, Epson America, Inc. "Epson's new EpiqVision Ultra LS500 Laser Projection TV redefines television and offers a truly immersive viewing experience for watching sports, TV shows, gaming, and so much more. It's simply epic."

The LS500 is available in both black and white, with pricing ranging from $4,999 (100" screen) and $5,999 (120" screen).

To clarify, the LS500 not only processes but also displays HDR10 content. Of course, the impact and benefits of HDR will be somewhat limited by the Rec709 color space.
