Emotiva Attacks Affordability with Its New Airmotiv S12 and S15 Subwoofers
(Emotiva) The all new 15" Airmotiv S15 subwoofer is shipping now(August 15, 2018) Just weeks before CEDIA 2018, Emotiva has officially unveiled two new Airmotiv subwoofer models. Priced north of the company’s original 10” Airmotiv S10 sub model ($599), the new 12” Airmotiv S12 ($799) and 15” Airmotiv SS15 ($1,199) are designed with power, performance, and affordability in mind.
“The Airmotiv speaker series is our response to anyone who thinks audiophile-grade sonics and rugged construction are only available at unnecessarily high prices,” said Dan Laufman, President andCEO, Emotiva Audio Corp. “But if I say so myself, we outdid ourselves with the new Airmotiv subs, especially the S15. Nothing in their price class comes remotely close to the level of accuracy and refinement achieved by these subwoofers.”
Much like the original S10, both the S12 (66 lbs) and S15 (95 lbs) feature down-firing high-excursion passive radiators, front mounted removable grilles, shock absorbing feet, and heavily braced high-density fiberboard cabinets covered in a durable textured vinyl. Both also carry drivers comprised of a non-pressed treated paper cone, a large double stacked ferrite magnet, and a 3” copper voice coil. That motor system is supported by a cooling design that allows the subs to be driven hard during lengthy listening sessions.
The 15” S15 model is powered by a 650 watt RMS Class D amplifier, while the 12” version carries a 500 watt amp. Emotiva says the amps utilize cool-running MOSFET technology and toroidal power supplies protected by advanced multi-stage limiters. Connectivity and control options are highlighted by an XLR input and a Low Frequency Boost control for a customized deep bass response.
Speaking of response, the S12 is specified to dig down to 24Hz, while the S15 can hit down to 20Hz.
